I know it's just a TV show, but I wonder if at least part of this isn't like GoT and Robert's rebellion.

People are angry, for some reason, but they weren't galvanized because they didn't have a cause to focus that anger.

Trump(ism) gave them a cause.

"Socialism/Communism/Marxism is trying to ruin the country, we have to stop it"
"they're trying to take away our rights/guns/free speech, we have to stop it"
"they're selling children as sex slaves, we have to stop it"
"they rigged the elections, we have to stop it"

These are causes, to fight for. To convert the energy of anger, into motion.

If there's a blessing to all this, it's that there are logs we've been afraid to turn over because we didn't want to look at all the creepy crawly things that have been living under them. The bugs have come out and are coming after us, and we can't avert our eyes anymore.

Imagine a political party - a Gutless Obsequious Party - utilizing this ideology and willing to destroy our institutions and democratic principles for the sole purpose of staying in power. Ugh! 😖

A speaker at the biggest Conservative conference of the year said the riots "were awesome"? Impossible. 2 just said everyone on the right condemned them as he wept over what has happened to Oero and Dr Suess, which are the real issues in this country. Not some rascals taking selfies.

Why are no Republicans condemning Rep. Paul Gosar for cozying up to white nationalists?
Opinion: Arizona Rep. Paul Gosar spoke at a white nationalist conference and the condemnation from the Republican Party is ... non-existent.
Laurie Roberts
Arizona Republic

Arizona’s most shocking story today isn’t the fact that an Arizona congressman spoke at a white nationalist conference on Friday night.

It’s the silence pouring forth from the Arizona Republican Party that is absolutely stunning.

Gosar has long been known for living out there on what used to be the party’s fringe. Used to be.

I admire a guy willing to hunt Marigolds with a pistol. They are cunning. He might be over the bag limit, though.

People are angry, but they don't have a cause to fight for.

Before the 2016 election I wanted to put Bernie and Trump signs in my yard. Honestly, if someone had handed them to me I would have because I wanted to say F You to the establishment. I think that sums up alot of it.

Your life was awful, wasn't it? The "establishment" had ruined your life. It's no wonder you were so angry at a nameless and probably meaningless totem.

Where did I say my life was awful?

Just telling you how I felt about politics at the time, take it however you want...

Glad you actually feel represented by your politicians, I don't and I don't think most people do.

I have a hard time take people serious who claim to be very angry about made-up things that they can't even describe in reasonable terms.

"The establishment" = an excuse to be angry, because you want to be angry at something for no good reason.

I just wanted to tell the establishment to fuck off. Doesn't mean I'm angry, it means I don't feel they represent me and I have nothing but bad options.
