Maturi

I didn't think I'd be using this thread again today, but here goes.

Any of the people who said they wanted Maturi's head (or used spineless, limp wristed, etc.) if we got into a Division with OSU and PSU and didn't get to play IA and WI going to send a note of congratulations to him? Conversly, is anybody going to send a note to Brett and Barry with a "nice job on the Nebraska rivalry" note?

Me, I'm still surprised because I can't believe that MN, IL, IN or Purdue would have any say in the matter, and maybe they didn't. The guys who DID think it was all "up to Joel" owe him at least a "internet board" apology.

Well, those with the stones to do it anyway.

If this isn't how things turn out tonight just go back to the first post in the thread.:)

I've always been a Maturi fan. I sent him a somewhat angry email earlier, and after these are announced I will definately send him a congratulatory one.

I think, if nothing else, this alignment proves that everyone else in the Big Ten hates Wisconsin too.

I'd hold off on these e-mails of congratutions. Looks like we won't be playing for the Governor's Bell every year.

There have been several comments on the board today that have made me laugh, this one included. Good work by all today!

Joel has kept the money he so desperately wanted to keep. I think the rest is just the rest. If the rumors are correct we will also be getting to play 4 1/2 of the Big Six each year. That will keep the "play the best" crowd happy. However, as a member of the "wins help, losses hurt" crowd, I have no doubt this will not help past the real goal of keeping the money.

Wisconsin will play OSU and PSU every year. Two possible losses. They will play three "have nots" every year plus Minnesota.

Minnesota will play Neb, Iowa and Michigan every year. We will also play two "have nots" every year plus Wisconsin.

How does this equal a bad deal for the Badgers?? Hard to go 8-0 for sure, but not what we will be facing.

Could you please expand on this. I don't believe I've read this anywhere before.

You're logic is so twisted it is funny. Do you realize that in your mind if there is a Big 6, there is also a Little 6? That means by your logic, on average we will play 4.5 of the Big 6 and 3.5 of the Little 6.

Considering Minnesota is part of the Little 6, and we can't play ourselves, that is a fairly even split and we get to play every one of our rivals. That doesn't even get into the fact that Nebraska and Michigan are not OSU.

By your own logic, Wisconsin is part of the Big 6, they also can't play themselves, so they are by definition going to have an easier schedule since they are better than more teams than we are. You won't answer anyone and present a better scenario.

Big Ten.

For the record, I never thought it was "ALL up to Joel." All I wanted was our annual games with UW and IA to be guaranteed. Up til today, nothing from Maturi's actions or words assured me of that. Fortunately, we lucked into a scenario where Nebraska wanted us in their division and it shook out in probably the best way possible. If Joel had any reason for how this went down, I am very appreciative of his efforts.

Give him his due, it must be difficult for Loon to scurry from thread to thread to thread, picking out parts that he disagrees with while ignoring anything that won't help your crusade to tear the University's Athletic Department down. "No, it's BAD for us", "it's all about money", "4 or 2, 4 or 3", "No I WON'T give you my suggestion, what's yours?" It's got to be tiring.

Life is quite difficult when you've convinced yourself that you're the only source of the truth.

I second Gopherhurrin's (or Wren's or whomever's) plea to join the Sun Belt. Then we can win 8-10 games every year!

The funny thing is, for how arrogant and boisterous WI has been during this whole thing and how 'timid' everyone portrayed Maturi, this worked out(if true) pretty much perfect for us and poorly for them.

Perhaps Maturi walks softly and carries a big stick?

And maybe he (we) just fell into this @ss first. I don't care. If this comes to fruition, it's the best possible outcome, sans the most obvious and correct east/west version.

Badger fans are thrilled, you betcha Loon:

"This really really sucks. I guess all those other team fanbases claiming that Barry had huge influence on Delaney were dead wrong."

"Wow. What a disaster."

"Big Ten bigwigs are ruining football. Makes no sense at all from a UW fan's prospective. This could greatly set-back the gains that UW football has been making. I would trade for Iowa's spot in one second. They got the easier division and git rivals Minnesota and Nebraska plus likely will get Illinois in a cross-over game"

"If this is true, F' the Big 10! I hope the whole league goes into serious decline because of this BS."

"Wow....I guess we all knew one team would get royally screwed and it turns out it's us."

I understand completely why they'd be upset with this alignment, but the complaints about having a harder division are strange. Our division will be much tougher than theirs.

I can't wait to see Joel's first interview. I fully expect to see his bloody hands fully wrapped in bandages after all of the table-pounding he has clearly done in the past few days. :D

But in all seriousness, if the reported alignment is true, we should be glad and he does get some of the credit.
