People are getting way to worried and anxious. No need to panic or lay awake at night worrying about our new coach. With Maturi in charge you know he's got everything under control. A new coach will be named soon and think most people will be pleasantly suprised!

Pleasantly?

When you say that you think most people will be pleasantly surprised, do you say this with credible knowledge?

Be Maturi

In the 1982 classic Firefox Clint Eastwood goes undercover into Soviet Russia to steal their new supersonic fighter. But to fly the plane, you have to think in Russian.

So to figure out how this whole coaching search will wrap up, I've been thinking like Maturi, here it goes:

I'm going to assume our next coach is coaching in a game this weekend. We know that Maturi wants to spite the media and announce the decision via twitter first. My guess is that the coach will announce to his team he's leaving for Minnesota after the game in the locker room. Maturi will get notice that this has happened and fire off the twitter simultaneously. That way the players don't find out from somebody else but you also control the news leaking.

The twitter post will also announce a press conference for Monday. This way you get the news splashing on ESPN on Saturday while everyone is watching football and sportscenter. Then you'll get headlines in the Sunday papers, and also press on Monday/Tuesday from the press conference.

See, it's not so much who is named coach, but that you maximize the PR.

I'm going to lay down somewhere now.

20-niner,

I do agree that Maturi is going to make sure there are no leaks. Tubby and Brewster being hired seemed to come out of nowhere and suprise everyone. I think this hiring will be the same.

I think that Maturi has done a great job of keeping things quiet and this has caused the media to be confused and to do some wild speculating. I just hope in the end Maturi has not fooled himself into thinking he can sign his #1 when in fact he can't. Here's hoping for Mullen or Riley!

I don't think a coach would announce he's leaving immediately after a game. They usually wait until the next day or two days afterward. After a big win to end the season, you don't want to kill the players celebration by announcing you're leaving and after a big loss, you don't want to add insult to injury.

More likely scenario:
Monday or Tuesday the hire meets with his team and announces the decision. Simultaneously, Maturi has a team meeting with Gopher players to tell them and the Tweet is issued to fans.

That way everyone knows before the media which will give Maturi a great sense of satisfaction.

Count me in the camp that thought Maturi should have been out on this decision. And, count me as still skeptical that the hire will be of epic proportions or even "Tubby Smith like." But, a certain part of me has some optimism that JM has his back against the wall and this is his shot to have a lasting impact on the program as he'll be gone soon. I think the mancares deeply about the U. Maybe that pride plus real pressure for the first time plus more money to put on the table will produce something we'll be able to like. I hope.

I think the Mike Leach article threw everything upside down.
