Last year, I went to a Spring practice at TCF. I remember seeing this scrawny cornerback who turned out to be Martez Shabazz. Quick but undersized and he also had a ways to go on playing the position itself. In watching the Spring game, I was impressed with his perfect form tackling. It is obvious that he is not only coachable, but has been coached well. And although the weight chart states he's only gained four pounds, if so, that's impressive four pounds!

Even better, he's the first DB in a long, long time that goes for the ball, rather than the tackle.

sigh. Not attacking you personally, but let's get the names of the players right.

It's Shabazz.

Cobb, not Cobbs.

Ekpe, not Epke.

Gillum, not Gillium.

Maye, not Mayes.

Santoso, not Santos.

...plus the myriad of misspelled first names. It is flat out rude to misspell or mispronounce someone's name. Flat out rude. Let's make an effort to learn them and use them correctly.

This is not the "Spelling Police," just politeness.

Shabezz really does tackle well. Especially for his size. Too bad he didn't make that interception against Texas Tech.

And here comes Alex Mayes (and hopefully his not-so-little brother Connor) to complicate things.

Thanks highweighman!

I hope Phillippe Nelsen can catch his receivers in stride this year. Otherwise he is going to see Marc Liednar in his rear view mirror very quickly, the way Liednar was winging it on Saturday. Either way you don't want to see the team relying on the running game as the only option with Donald Kirkland, although Kirkland does put a quality product on the shelves at Costco. I'm confident coach Kilt will adDRESS all issues and not skirt any of the areas that need to be monitored.

I loved Nelsen's throw to Max Williams. The TE and WR positions will be interesting with Max, Duke Anyonwualu, Jamal Harbinson and hopefully Engle and Freuchte continue to progress.

I'm gonna start calling him Felipe Nelson.

I know this is a little off subject, but does anyone know if Grey or Stoudimeyer ever signed on somewhere?

This thread is outta control LOL

On-topic: I like bits I've seen from Shabazz. Hope he can stay healthy this year.

Personally, I was very impressed with Roderik Williams at the spring game. He moved the pile, and he showed some surprisingly quick feet. If Colt Banhum is injured, we're going to be light at the running back spot, and we'll need the horses like Roderick and Darren Cobbs, and Donyell Kurkwoud to take a lot of snaps.

This was somewhat amusing at first but as far as hilarity goes, Shaka thread this is not.

Does anyone know if the Olsen twins will be ready buy fall camp Tomas and Edwin could be quite a force on the left side. That is if Tomas can stay ahead of Carlo Back. Will Bobbit the guy from Ahia get a chance at center?

:clap::clap: applause all around for this thread! Syd Heartman may even call you all a bunch of geniuses!

Shabazz could be something. Overall I thought the secondary looked a lot better than I expected. I'm not sure what I will do if we have an actual defense that looks like it belongs on the field.

Back to the Shabezz topic...Country Gerry is sure coaching him up! I hope Teeg gives him an extension after the season.

You guys are hilarious. Where do you come up with all of this material? So original. I get it, you're purposely spelling players' names wrong right? And to take it to another level you are now including the coach and AD? This stuff is fresh. Keep the zingers coming!

Regarding Shabazz, the actual topic of the thread, I think it speaks to our depth at corner that this kid is 3rd or 4th in line at the position. Wells will be very good, Murray sounds like a stud, and Boddy/Shabazz/Baltazar will provide depth and have played pretty well when called upon.

Shabezz may be fast, but he won't match up well with our big tight ends. Pslek, Apilate, Gregary-MacGhee, and Bicsh provide a veteran presence. And don't sleep on the newcomers - Nate Wonziak and Nik Heart.

Shabazz had I solid spring. I bet he has a really good Sr. year.

I forgot all about Balthazar. He is a talented feller.
