I know this is not necessarily Gopher related, but Pav died at his psychiatric treatment facility sometime yesterday or today. Great player, bit of a loner, suffered from CTE, (according to his sister). He and Herbie developed a heck of a relationship starting with that Miracle on Ice team, ending with the Rangers run and then after hockey until Herbie's tragic death.

Story went that Brooks resented him for going to UMD instead if the U. The GM of USA hockey (can't think of his name), convinced Herb that he had to put him on the team as he was obviously one of their best players. After the Olympics, tables were turned as that same person, now GM of the Rangers, had to be convinced by Herb that Pav could play in the NHL. Rest (and 300 some points) is history.

RIP Mark.

Sad news, tremendous player.

You have to wonder if tramatic brain injury from hockey played a big part in his troubles after hockey. He was a legend on the Range.

NHL is behind the NFL on the impact of CTE in their sport. His sister described dramatic personality changes, aggression and he was sentenced for assaulting his neighbor. Sad ending for a Ranger hockey legend.

Craig Patrick?

Wonder how much coaches carry that resentment over the years while a player plays against you for about 3-4 years or so? Or is it just Brooks?

I think recruitment in all big time sports becomes more personal now. So much time and work put in and it has to be hard to hear someone say no after all that.

Here's to Mark Pavelich! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Rest in Peace, Pav.
