Visiting this weekend. Committed to NIU, but will likely change. He is being recruited by Jim Zebrowski

This guy reminds me of Harold Howell.

At that size he'd better be damn fast.

I'd take him, size isn't everything. Reminds me more of dominic jones with the way he doesn't shy from contact, refreshing to see in a cornerback. Jones also was only 5'8".

^ What happened with Hayo Carpenter? Was he just lazy or what?

Poor kid was just compared to Harold Howell and Hayo Carpenter in the same thread.

What happened to Hayo was that he simply wasn't that good. I haven't heard anything negative said about the kid except that he was not what was advertised. He was considerably slower than they had heard (and a lot of other schools) and he just wasn't anywhere near the player they thought they had coming to the U.

As far as this kid, his size seems to be a bit of a concern. I do think he is the 5'8" he is listed at simply because he was a similar size to most of their DBs and there just aren't a lot of kids even playing HS football at 5'6". That isn't very scientific reasoning, but I don't know. He does seem to play tough and smart and have legitimate speed (unlike Howell and Carpenter), but his size makes him problematic. I don't know how capable of locking someone up man to man he would be in the Big 10. Even with perfect coverage, these guys would still be "open". I also have some issues with his ability to tackle at the next level. There were a few occasions on that tape where he appeared to have guys lined up and he was about to take a huge shot at them and was barely able to get them down. I just think at the Big 10 level, they might shrug him off like a gnat (on occasion). On the other hand, he certainly had moments were he looked like a really good tackler. He obviously isn't afraid of contact and he can fly.

I thought Howell had legitimate speed. He just didn't have legitimate hands.

RB and DB size. How big are Tyrone Carter and Darren Sprowles, I'll take a good football player, no matter what his size.

If he has good vision, he could be great as a return man. Also might be fun to put in the slot for some slant routes or screen plays.

But....he was "the most dynamic player" a certain big time football man had ever seen!

That's the Howell video and it contains numerous video game type plays. Howell also beat Chris Rainey (FLA) in the state 100 M finals. Howell came to Minnesota and played as a true freshman before leaving that Spring. I thinks it's entirely possible that Howell would have been a dynamic return man at some point in his 4 years at Minnesota. Not many guys break out as true freshman, especially when surrounded by the "talent" of the 2007 Gophers.

I thought I heard his work ethic wasn't exactly the best actually. I thought I read it here, but I could be wrong. In any event, yes, Hayo was not what hardly anybody thought he'd be in all aspects. He fooled Florida too lol.

Harold Howell was a guy who BADLY needed a redshirt to get stronger. He was too small, he couldn't break anything cause at first touch, he was down. He fell victim to the Brewster hype train. Fortunately for this Marcus Jones kid, he won't have that problem, as he won't be expected to contribute immediately I don't think. He'll have time to get stronger without the pressure of hype dropped on him by his coach.

watched a video on jones

and liked how he never avoided the hit, he does look small but quick and willing to stick his pads in there. I didn't realize he had that type of speed, nice!

I think we have enough of those already and look how that worked out in 2010--3-9.

Who is the "we" of which you speak? Just stop pretending you are anything but an Iowa jack-hole. I really think it's pathetic that you spend this much time on another team's board and somehow have it in your mind that you're getting under our skin, or somehow sticking it to us.

You and the other pig humpers have your own issues. Maybe your energies would be better served by working on your team getting some serviceable, non-drug addicted running backs.

Now go chase some little girls, Lason Jr.

Yep, one of the most ironic things about the stupidity of Maturi's "Tubby-like" comment was how it reminded me of a typical Brewster mistake. The way he talked up Harold Howell had people expecting way too much out of that kid as a true freshman and it essentially cut his legs out from under him.

As far as Hayo, you could be right. I just remember hearing from someone after what would have been his first practice (it seems like it leaked through the players or something) that Hayo wasn't impressive at all. I think he was hyped up so much by the recruiting services (like you said, FL offered him) that people were all kind of anxious to see what he had at practice and it became immedietly obvious that he wasn't going to be anywhere near his hype. If that was due to a lack of effort or lack of talent (or a combo), I don't know.

I forgot about Harold Howell. It seemed like he had the speed, but didn't have the attitude.

I've seen this kid listed as a RB a couple places (MV) and a few of the articles.

It might make more sense for this kid because he is a bit short, so I wouldn't be shocked to see this kid RS and put on some weight and be HB. I think he is 5'8" 175, and if he RS, he could be 5'8" 200 lbs by the time he is a JR/SR.

I give Hayo the benefit of the doubt as our passing game the past years has looked horrible. The majority of Dmckights catches were jumping over people. With the past coaches it seamed like you had to be an Nfl caliber receiver to have above average success. If your a good college receiver your going to look like like a piece of *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#.

The stats from last year are 70% garbage time. Could someone figure out what the receiver's stats were through the first 3 quarters of the game - compared to the 4th quarter down by 20 against second and third stringers?
