Marcus Fuller blog: Iowa win proves defense should carry the Gophers next season

God they looked impressive. There was a defensive series, in the 3rd quarter I think, the one with the "safety" that was called back. I think it was the best defensive series I watched all season.

Did you notice how they didn't give up the third and long every single time too? The unit has really come together the last two games. Stoudermire has been a beast. Things look good.

Not just starters

Forget about the fact that NINE defensive starters are coming back next year.

TWENTY of the 22 players on the 2-deep defensive roster will be back next year and a large number of those will be back the year after.

That, along with the growing depth of young talent on the offensive line (Michel, Olson, Olson, Gjere, Ragoo, Eggen, Mottla, et al) is going to be a nice nucleus to build around.

I'll bet my next paycheck that he (F) "Mucks" up the hire one way or another!

If Beal is set to go and healthy, he'll likely be the MLB, which would move Tinsley to one of the OLB slots with either Rallis or Cooper going to safety (if they are deemed fast enough). I think Tinsley is going to be extremely productive at OLB.

Coaching uncertainty aside, I'm already excited for next season.
