Marcus Fuller blog: How does Gray compare to other Big Ten quarterbacks this spring?

If you look at stats from the spring game these two would be question marks, which is clearly not the case.

Denard Robinson 5 of 14 70 yards no TDs
Taylor Martinez 4 of 13 52 yards INT

Martinez is far from a sure thing to even be starting for Nebraska this fall. Right, GG?

A lot of people are high on Carnes. He might start, or they might do something else with him, but he will be on the field this year.

Will be interesting to see, they are changing to more of a no-huddle spread from what I hear.

Also, from the article "Not saying Gray is anywhere close to that category (really goes without saying)." Then why say it?

Totally useless sentence. Seems like a pointless cheap shot.

It is true that a lot of fans are high on Brion Carnes, but my money would still be on Martinez being the starting QB atleast to begin the season. Pelini loves his big play ability. I don't think Carnes will be on the field unless it is at QB, are you confusing him with Jamal Turner? Turner is a true freshman QB recruit who graduated early and enrolled at Nebraska in January and participated in Spring ball very effectively as a return man and wide receiver. It is true that they will be going to more of a no-huddle offense, though they purposely did not show much of this in their spring game. They will be employing alot of aspects from the old KU offense when Mangino and Reesing were there because the new OC at Nebraska Tim Beck was at KU at that time. I think the QB most are excited to see is Bubba Starling if he makes it to campus as he is likely to be a top pick and maybe even top 10 pick in the MLB draft this summer.

That's right. I was down there a couple of weeks ago, and the people I was talking to were high on Carnes, but Turner was the guy that might be all over the field.

Thanks for fixing that for me.

While I agree that M. Fuller sets himself up for misinterpretation(perceived cheapshots), I think he was trying to state that he (Fuller) wasn't comparing Q to Cam Newton. I agree that he could have phrased it better.

I wonder why he didn't chose to point out that there is a large amount of turnover in the BigTen at the QB position? Depending on how you look at it, there will be as many as seven new starters (including McGloin(sp?){PSU}, and Bauserman{OSU} to start out the season. To throw Fuller's quote back at him, implying spring game stats aren't indicative of real game performance "goes without saying". IMO the bigger story is the number of "new" starters in the conference.
