Gophers coach Tubby Smith met with freshman forward Charles Buggs’ parents this week. They agreed with Smith that sitting out this season is probably the best thing for Buggs’ long-term development.
“We have limited minutes for him at that position right now,” Smith said after practice Wednesday, Nov. 14. “When we signed Charles, we weren’t expecting Trevor (Mbakwe) to be back, so a lot of things changed. But I think his parents and he understands that. He’ll be involved in practice. I love Charles’ attitude. He’s accepting. Everyone wants to play, but he understands that he’s better off with a redshirt this year — getting stronger and getting better.”
