per Marcus:

Second-year Minnesota coach Richard Pitino claims they were never too high to begin with from his point of view. He believes Hollins was a “good player” but not great.

“There’s not like this panic around our program to get Andre going,” Pitino said of his senior captain who is averaging just 7.0 points per game while shooting 6 of 32 from the field (18.8 percent) in three Big Ten games. “He’s giving us a lot. Just like they all are.”

Pitino said Thursday I always referred to Hollins as “your best player.”

He asked again, “Why?”

I didn’t answer then. Probably should have. But I didn’t feel like debating at the press conference. My argument would be that Hollins was the main reason why the Gophers won an NCAA tournament game two seasons ago, putting up 28 points against UCLA. He averaged 19 points during a four-game stretch this season, including 27 points with a school-record tying seven three-pointers at Wake Forest.

“He’s a good player,” Pitino said. “We have a collection of good ones. I think he’s doing a lot of good things. I can’t set the expectations of the public. He’s an important piece. DeAndre (Mathieu) is an important piece. Mo (Walker) is an important piece. They’re all important pieces.”

Go Gophers!!

When you're a 3 or 4 year starter(?) and dropped 42 as a sophomore on 16 shots... you get that label and then someone has to take that from you. On the offensive end in the BIG season Walker is trying.
