Does anyone think MS is quick enough to play adequate defense against the better opponents?

Seems a bit slow on the D end of the court.

Does anyone think that we can not have a new "what isn't Malik good at" thread after every game and instead start a "All things we hate about Malik" master thread instead.

Touchy much?

I watched him relatively closely during this game and that was simply my observation. Didn't mean to piss in your Cheerios. Or Wheaties.

Are you on a mission to complain about every single post that you view as negative?

No, only the posts that are repeated over and over again after each game. We have a game thread and post game thread so why do we also need a whiny complain about Malik thread after every game. I am fine with the opinion, I am sick of the singling out. Last year it was Mav (and I did this same complaining on his multi-thread abuse) and this year it is Malik. At least the "Wally isn't good enough" comments were in the game/post game thread instead of on loud speaker.

And after the next game, with some other dink creates the "why did we sign Malik" thread or "Is Malik too slow to play d-1" or "malik has terrible shot selection" or whatever may come...I will blast that jack wagon for doing it.

It's a legitimate question.

Legitimate question - no doubt. Requires its own thread - not at all. We have a game and a post game thread to discuss the game and players. Short of a player committing a crime or posting his manifesto on Tumblr, we don't need to blast a new players short comings every week like it is a new observation just because we didn't read any of the other threads or because we want to seem self important by starting a new thread.

If there is one thing he's good at, it's throwing up a contested 3 :)

I like to consider myself a glass half full kind of guy.

You call this blasting a player?....."Does anyone think MS is quick enough to play adequate defense against the better opponents?"

Seems to me you are the one doing the blasting.

Pitino said on his radio show that Smith hates defense. We brought him here for one reason, to get hot from behind the arc every once in a while and help win a few games. Don't ever expect him to play decent defense, because even our head coach probably isn't expecting it.

Blasting is not the nature of the critique it is the posting of new threads for the sole purpose of pointing out the critique when there are numerous threads that are discussing the points and there was already two threads pointing out the same thing in the past weeks.

Kind of like the difference between walking up to a guy that just walked out of the bathroom and mentioning his fly is down and screaming it across the room. Malik plays hard, contributes and we would be far worse off without him. So how about we offer him some classy fandom by not shouting it across the room just to make ourselves look important on a message board. But you can feel however...this is my opinion.

I must have missed the "when is it appropriate to start a new thread" tutorial.

Seems like we get complaints constantly about the "all things" threads. Now BarnBurner starts a thread asking a specific question about a player and gets ripped for that. If he/she had put that in the Wofford vs Minnesota thread, it would have been considered off topic. Which is it?

Opening a thread is still a choice, is it not?

Oh. Good thing he came to the Big Ten. Poor defense is encouraged here.

I think he is a bit slow.. But at least he isn't Blake Hoffharber slow. He was a defense nightmare to watch.

Malik will also have more tendency to be physical which is a positive contribution even though he is on the slow side.

Wait, so you're saying he will have a tendency to be slowly physical or physically slow?

I agree completely. Some of the people around here treat these athletes like they owe them something. These players have regular class schedules before they even begin putting in the effort of practices, weights, working on their shot whenever they can and then dealing with jet lag to go play a game to further throw them into a loop. The University, or rather the Athletic Dept, IS supplying them with an education in return. I am sure they are grateful for that. Keep in mind, though, that most of them had that same offer from other schools. It isn't like the U was the only bone marrow match for them in the world. They CHOSE to come and represent the school.

Every time I read about "so and so should transfer" or "he really sucks", I just want to throttle that person. These guys are doing their best. The coaches are trying to raise that best to a higher level. It takes time. Booing them won't speed the process up.

So to all you rubes who think you have the right to p*ss on them and their efforts, go down and bang on Pitino's door and demand that he move that scholly over to you, because you obviously are more talented and can handle the job better than what's happening already.

Speaking from experience, Gopho, I can assure you that some of the experts you are talking about will whine to the mods that you are bullying them, and then you will receive a PM from GH Admin scolding you. Been there, done that.

But, I agree with you.

I'll agree with you to a point. I'd like to see a scholarship honored, once it is offered. I'm also not a big "booer", particularly during college athletics.

But this sounds like, "we should give everybody a participation ribbon." This is big time college athletics where winning and losing matters. This isn't second grade T-ball. People that pay big money to attend these games should be able to react (within reason) in whatever way they want. Additionally, people should be able to raise questions about the players that are on the team, similar to the question raised in this thread. Every one of the players knows that is part of the deal when you sign to play at this level.
