Maddy no Tech offer

Luther Maddy DT from Delray Beach, Florida who visted Tech with teammate Estime and has offers from Marshall, Florida International, Florida Atlantic, among others may be getting an offer from Minnesota according to Tom Lemming on Sirus radio this morning. Estime wh did secure a offer has said he would not announce till signing day. Maddy is not rated as yet by Scout and has a 3*** rating from Rivals. Maybe will still have a chance with a partnership.

So Maddy is trying to ride Estime's coat tails somewhere. Estime looks good, but I don't like the whole offering friends to get a kid. I want a kid who is mentally tough and can handle being on his own in a new experience.

Rivals shows Maddy as 2**.

According to Rivals this morning, Thaddy is a 2** and no longer has a Marshall offer. It looks like VT may have brought in Thaddy on an official just to get a better look at Estime.
 

I'm going to really feel bad for that coach if he doesn't get to wear his VaTech hat on signing day.

As for the buddy-system, it's probably how we got Michael Carter (by offering Eric Jacques) and the Skyline guys. I think it's fine as long as you don't think you're throwing a scholarship away. If Kill thinks Maddy can contribute while here and in the process gets Estime, it's a win-win. Maddy did have a Northern Illinois offer, so it's obvious Kill and company are familiar with him.
 


You're correct. he is a 2** His posted 40 speed is 4.96. That is rather quick for a 275# DT

Sometimes kids choose to go somewhere if their friends also get the opportunity to go. It's tough for some kids to move that far away from home without the comfort/familiarity of having someone they know be there. Not saying that this is Estime's thought process but it does seem peculiar that he would show as a solid verbal only to recind that commitment a couple of days later when VT is bringing in Maddy for a visit.

It's also how we got Brandon Green (in-part by offering Johnson). I'm not sure Kill plays this same game - my guess would be no, but we'll see.

That said, Maddy may be worthwhile anyway - I know nothing about him.
 

I think we could use a defensive tackle in this class. I like his speed. Washington wanted him to visit ( no offer) but he indicated it was to far away.
 



If he is quick at that size I'd take my chances on him, big quick guys are hard to find.
 

Maddy looks a lot better then Eric Jacques did out of h.s., Jacques was offered to secure Michael Carter. Maddy also was a verbal to Marshall at one point. He looks pretty quick for his size, and he seems to play very hard, looks like he is one of those guys with a nonstop motor. He looks like he could provide a decent pass rush from the DT spot. I personally feel like he should be offered regardless of the fact that he might help secure Estime.

The skyline ones have all worked out, even with a few bumps from Stoudemire. Mcknight has turned out to be a gem as well, and both of them were 2 stars.
