Gophers an 8 seed playing Notre Dame (9 seed) in Los Angelas.

"@ESPNLunardi: This is insane, but definitely fun. The first 2013 NCAA tournament bracket is here. http://t.co/wQfqluUV"

Seems like ESPN analysts can not agree on the gophers. One has us as a top 15 team (most likely a 4 seed), others have us a top 25 school (6 seed), and here is one predicting an 8th seed. Should definitely be an interesting season.

At least we are in lol last year, while we were confident, many had us not doing so hot.

Purdue as the 7th Big Ten team is interesting. I suppose it is dangerous to underestimate a Matt Painter team.

Michigan or Michigan State could have a favorable path to the Final Four if either one of them has an exceptional (read: 1-3 seed) season. Auburn Hills is hosting a pod, and the Midwest Regional (Indy) is an easy drive for Michiganders.

Am sure IU wouldn't mind being in the Midwest, either.

When they win the Big Ten we can look back at the way they are under estimating the Mbakwe lead Gophers.

The bigger issue at that point would be, where would the team and Tubby like their statues to be placed?

I just booked my flight to LA. Two days of watching the Gophers with Disney in between.

This is for sure right?

Oh, it's not. Dang.

On the way to the LA (West) Regional don't forget to stop in Dayton for the Gophers' wins in the "2nd" and "3rd" rounds over Notre Dame and Kentucky.

I could live with drawing Notre Dame. Brey's teams seem to overachieve during the regular season, then flop in the NCAA.

I gotta wonder when this bracket was put together/how familiar Lunardi is with the Gophers and the Mbakwe situation. Regardless, this "bracket" will surely change countless times before March.

Personally, I'm just trying not to let the preseason predictions dictate how I feel. Until the Gophers prove me otherwise over the course of a few years, I'm going to expect the unexpected.

I think it's very questionable how he has Kansas a #1 seed. They "only" lost one of the top-2 players in college basketball last year, as well as their leader in the backcourt in Taylor. I guess he feels he needs to make someone West of the Mississippi a #1 seed, even if they don't deserve it.

Kentucky also is a questionable #1 seed. They're losing basically their entire team. They have talent on paper, but it often doesn't come together like it looks like it will on paper. Problems that don't show up well on paper (like poor 3-point shooting, mediocre team ballhandling, poor FT shooting) commonly become big issues for teams that are starting over like that. I think Noel is a far cry from Davis - not even close - that is a big drop-off in my opinion. If they got Shabazz Muhammad I wouldn't have such strong doubts, but the reality is they didn't get the one guy that is ready to step in and star.

Glad someone agrees on the Davis / Noel comparison. They aren't close. Watched him in the Jordan game and he has a VERY limited offensive arsenal. He is athletic and tall. He is not half the player AD was. When you are a center who essentially has PG skills, that won't just be replicated easily.
