Gray had a nice day running and was on in the passing game with limited opportunities, but there is such a difference when Shortell is out there (strong, accurate arm, good anticipation of receiver routes).

The difference is that he is a much better passer and a much worse runner. There is a give and take with the two QBs, and each really creates different opportunities.

I expect that the offense will look different next year should Shortell win the job. For the remainder of the year, however, I'm excited to watch the offense under Gray. 2-0!

It's nice to know that if Gray goes down, we have a good backup that still gives us a chance to win. Shortell looks very comfortable out there, that's for sure.

It was against New Hampshire's backups. Calm Down. He made one throw in particular that would have been a pick against almost anybody else. The deep out to the Gopher sideline was late and a floater

It will be nice watching him the next 2 years!!!

I know we will have many in this forum screaming for Phillip Nelson, but I don't want to see a redshirt freshman starting next year (and yes I know that is the equivalent to what Shortell is right now).

Ummmm.... yeah... okay. I think it's safe to say what your perspective is. For the record, the TD drive was against the UNH starters, the second series for Shortell was against the backups.

Ok expert guy, you know. Why even post that?

I really have no idea why you're making predictions like this, especially this early. For all we know, Nelson could prove to be brilliant during camp next year. Or he could be horrible. Either way, that's almost a year away, and a ton of things could (and will) happen between now and then.

Gray was 6 for 8 with two Touchdowns, one drop and one bad throw. He for a 12.5 yard average. Shortel was 5 for 6 with a TD and averaged 12.0 yards.

Don't remember Gray's receivers having to make a "great catch" to save him. Shortell had two, but Gray had an "okay" day and Shortell looked great?

Go figure..

Many of mg's runs came on what looked like a pass play but he 'tucked it and ran'. How many of those was there a receiver to throw to and would max have completed passes on those?

Something we won't know, but maybe the coaches know after watching game film. Just curiosity on my part.

We have a lot of uniquely talented QBs. Good problem to have.

+1 Gray made some nice throws today between defenders. Only missed high on one throw to Rabe. Thought he showed some great touch.

Don't create a quarterback controversy when their isn't one. Gray led 5 touchdown drives today with a missed field goal. He played a great game. Didn't make any mistakes and we come out victorious in a way that we haven't won in years. By 30+ points.

I really don't have anything close to an official source, but I watched the game today with a friend who happens to be an athlete at the U who lives in the athlete dorms, and he said a lot of people have been saying that Shortell will transfer. Not sure how much I believe it though.

Not many. Thought he mixed in a good game.

Who gives a ratzazz...we win big, and several are still trying to over analyze every little tid bit.

Dr. Don, analyzing is what we do, it's fun and many of us enjoy it. It's more fun to analyze after a win than a loss. Have a beer and enjoy it!

Go Gophers!!

Ho Boy, this ought to really set the GopherHole bonkers.

You need to take a break from this board Don. People enjoy discussing sports, you obviously don't.

Bleed, analyzing is one thing, over analyzing is a totally different story. In the words of Parski1, just win baby. I guess Parski is wrong.

Over analyzing GopherHolers comments is my shtick. It doesn't make sense.

I love Gray.

But his running style does not help our o-line get into a good rhythm and tempo when somebody else is running the ball.

To emphasize the point even further, all it was was a small comment he made with a tiny conversation following it after I asked him about it. The only reason why I didn't just discredit it immediately was because he lives around all of them.

Gray made one play today as a QB that REALLY made me smile and take notice. On the long completion to Rabe, just before the TD pass to Rabe, Gray actually stood in the pocket, felt a little pressure, and then slid laterally a few steps before finding a wide open Rabe for a long completion.

49 times out of 50, Gray just tucks it and runs in that situation. It was honestly the first time I can recall him doing that. He just doesn't seem to have any pocket awareness or pocket presence, or really seem very comfortable in the pocket at all. I think it was the first pass play of the game, he stood in the pocket, where there was protection if he just steps up, and instead he ran himself right into the pass rush. That seems to be the norm.

Not worth complaining about today. Big win for the Gophers!!! Huge win against a team that could have given them some fits. The defense gets the credit for this one, they played really really well, gave the Gophers good field position, put the offense in great positions to score!!! Sooooooo awesome to finally be excited about the defensive side of the ball!!!

Definitely a good one to build on!!!

Studwell Sr and I were gushing about that on the phone after it happened too!

the whole point is this...why even mention such a thing when Max is the QB inherent, which most of us would relish that situation.

Would 't blame him for transferring. Will only mop up or be injury replacement this year. Next year he is likely to fill the same roll.

Next year is his spot to lose in my opinion.

Huh? I would say he's the favorite to start next year for sure.
