per the Courier Journal:

As both coaches slogged through seasons filled with struggles, they used a familiar crutch to lean on: each other. This offseason will be no different.

Rick Pitino said his son will meet him in Florida this week to decompress and relax and spend time with family. But as intensely competitive as the Pitinos are, it is hard to imagine them avoiding conversations about basketball – about this season, about Rick's upcoming meeting with NCAA investigators in April, about Rick's future as a head coach, about Richard's all-important offseason.

As Rick tells it, Richard text messages him "15 to 20 times" before Rick just gets sick of texting and calls him. Rick said he tries to encourage Richard by reminding him that "when you build a program, you've got to go through" seasons like the one Minnesota just had.

For reference, Rick talks about Tom Crean at Indiana, Kevin Willard at Seton Hall, Mick Cronin at Cincinnati and Mark Turgeon at Maryland, all coaches who had rough stretches as they tried to rebuild their teams. He reminds his son that he has a top-25 signing class coming in, and two talented transfers who will be eligible to play next season.

"Whenever you go through tough times, basketball-wise, you lean on people you're close with," Richard said. "I think we both did that. I think we're probably both excited that the season is over and we can both regroup and take a deep breath. That's where you turn when you have a tough season."
