So often, we read stories or see reports about a murder or sudden death. One of the first lines in almost every story is how the person who died had "started to turn their life around," or "had made some big changes in their life".
More often than not, it is a fabrication--or downright lie--to tug at the heartstrings and to sell papers and commercial minutes.
In Gary Tinsley's case, it was not.
He had done a lot of stupid, dangerous and likely criminal things. I hate when people say the word "bad decisions" or "mistakes" when someone does something illegal, "immoral," or patently criminal. Those sort of things are anything but mistakes.
Gary Tinsley went after his degree, stayed out of trouble, and ACTIVELY pursued a new--and different--life. He had turned his life around. In a way, he inspired his friends, family, and teammates more in death than in life.
For the anniversary of his death, it is not only fitting to remember, but fitting to move on. I'm saluting you, Gary, and I'm retiring my GopherHole Signature. Thanks for the memories.

And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest."--Shakespeare, Hamlet.
