That's 2013. I'm thinking 8 wins in 2013, and 9 in 2014. Offense looks solid; defense looks pretty good. I don't know about those linebackers, though. I know this is far out, but hey I thought It'd be fun to make a depth chart.

Thoughts?

Impossible to tell at this point. People said the same thing about the current roster 2-3 years ago.

There's always the year after next year and the following year! Not trying to be negative, but these types of posts are hilarious, especially only 2 games into this season.

Sorry, but the I really hope there are some new names on that list or we will be in trouble on both sides.

I too think these types of threads are pretty silly. Everyone on this board was convinced Brewster's recruiting would put the gophs in the Rose Bowl by this season or even last. It's really impossible to project.

One thing is for certain, Kill will definitely have this team performing at a much higher level by year 3 or 4. His wiki shows great success everywhere he's gone by the 3rd or 4th season. One thing I found interesting (and I'm not saying it means he's a bad coach) is that he is 0-7 in postseason play.

Edit: OK, I believe 0-7 is completely incorrect. After every season statistic it lists an L in the post season, but for his time at Southern Illinois it says what round he lost in the I-AA playoffs. He obviously won a few games there since he made it to the second round a few times and the semis once.

I disagree. If there are new names on the list they are true freshmen or JC transfers and that means Kill is failing. We need to be build along the way. There is young talent on this team that should beat out new additions in the future.

His career postseason record is 4-7. Of course he doesn't get credit for the bowl victory last season, but I think it's fair to mention that his NIU squad absolutely smoked a Fresno St. squad that damn near upset Nebraska this weekend.

Is it also fair to mention that prior to said bowl victory, NIU laid an egg in the MAC Championship vs. Miami (OH) as a 17 point favorite?

I wouldn't really call it "laying an egg". I would call it a 7-1 MAC team beating an 8-0 MAC team by 5 points by scoring a TD in the last minute.

I don't bet on games, but my brother does, and he funded the purchase of his daughters' Christmas presents with this game. "Easiest money I've ever made," he said. One of the worst point lines I've noticed.

Meaning that your brother had followed Jerry Kill's 2010 Norther Illinois team and thought they were really overrated coming into the bowl game?

No - that Miami was underrated. But obviously, you knew that's what I was saying.

Try harder, troll.

If that's the actual roster in the future, we'll at minimum be a solid team. Keeping all the kids and getting the depth Kill wants are key just to get us on solid ground. But we're gonna need an infusion of talent if we want to go to the next level, and I think Kill knows that as well. I would hope there's a couple of freshman, or sophs in our lineup in a couple years, kids who come in and make an immediate impact and spark to supplement the experience on the squad.

Yes, It does appear barring a lot of defections that we will have enough players to field a team in the years to come.

Also, don't forget how good Northern Illinois looked last year against us, in the MAC championship game, and especially in their bowl victory. These coaches did a great job there - with lesser talent. That said, I drove 400 miles to see the worst Gopher game since Brewster's Bowling Green inaugural. The team looked off and not ready to play from the kickoff on...
