Looking forward to next year

We'll have a much better idea of what kind of coach we have after next season

How on earth can you be looking forward to next year? Honestly it feels like we will be even worse next year with how much we have regressed this year.

2-3 win season next year and PJ is fired.

We'll actually have an offseason and a concrete list of things to work on vs (basically) no off-season and a young, unknown defense.

Don't think he's had enough playing time. If he was playing this year, maybe, but I don't think any NFL team is going to take a chance this year on a player that has played less than what, 3 years of football?
If he goes out this year, unless he blows people away at the combine or his workouts ... he'll be undrafted and have to fight to be invited to fall camp. Best case, practice squad.

How do you seriously believe that?

Look at this year and just how bad we are. We aren’t going to turn it around by next year (this year’s offseason will be similar to next years). Which means no time with players and no improvement. The players this year stink and we are stuck with them for 2-4 years.

All the players we have now are PJ’s and it’s clear that, other than WRs, the cupboard is bare at all the other positions. We can’t even get a decent kickerfor goodnesses sake!

So Mafe, Otomewo, Cheney, and Carter all suck?
MSM, Rush, and Oliver all suck?
Lindenburg, (true freshman), sucks?
Nubin and Dixon suck?
Howden is awful as well?

Coney Durr is graduating. If you think he sucks, I guess that's good because someone else will replace him unless they suck too.
I don't know who all of our freshman DB's are. But they must suck as well.

Incoming recruits must suck too. I'll trust you've looked into it and know.

Thing is, this team is tough to watch right now. You need to realize that there is a lot of season left for things to turn around. They had no 3 game "warm up" this season (BYU would have killed the Gophers this year, that much is clear). We all know with who left and who is still here that this should be a pretty good team. Maybe the whole not much off season has had a much bigger impact, who knows? This team does have talent, it's just not playing with it, they are terrible right now. I will be looking for progress and hope to see this team get those young guys playing better and playing with each other. I was so optimistic that last year although an epic season wasn't going to be the only season like that, now not so sure.

Hey “Face the facts” —we suck!

We do suck.
I agree.

But the idea we are falling down some talentless pit of doom to last us several years...
that's ridiculous.

The only way we suffer that is if PJ leaves and takes most of his (whatever year is current) recruiting class with him.

As long as teams like NDSU find 2 star talent and competes with low-medium level Big Ten teams thanks to good coaching and execution, there's always going to be a better chance for a team with recruits of a higher athletic standard who are equally coachable to win games.

PJ's recruiting has been graded anywhere from great to average to below average.
People seem really quick to want to say they all suck and PJ doesn't know how to recruit the right players.

Well, who are all of the wrong players. I can think of one who is getting a lot of heat.
If people want to write off the RS freshmen and freshman who are playing, let's hear names or numbers with the wisdom to enlighten who PJ missed badly on who is currently killing us.

Let's not all be keyboard warriors and not supply the specifics to name names or provide jersey numbers or even initials.

If you're going to be bold, provide the details, people.

Better to be specific as we start rallying to run PJ out of town if that's what's best for the program.

Some general observations;

- Whole lotta Freshmen on D, playing like Freshmen. Uff Da
- Penalties. Discipline normally a hallmark of this team, certainly not tonight; overly hyped for rivalry game? Easily the thing that stuck out the most to me
- Really lost the battle of field position, which has been a reoccurring theme all year, although tonight it wasn't just because of the specialists

Best thing about Fresh, they become Sophs. A whole lotta learning going on for players like Gordon, Willis, MJ Anderson, Carter, Daniel Jackson and MBS, Cheney, Lindenberg

If there is one spot you don't want Freshman playing, I would assume it would be D-line.
Having two at DT / NG is probably not ideal.

I think we will be much improved next year. A lot of young guys on D, some very unusual circumstances this year, some talent coming in next year, I think things will improve.

That, and quite honestly I expected a fair amount more this year from Schad and MDT. Those guys have been around the block quite a while, they should be the stalwarts of the defense. That's not helping matters

I'm not seeing the growth, frankly. Unusual circumstances apply across the board for most P5 programs, it's not unique to Fleck and the Gophs.

A lot of teams start young guys....They make mistakes but if there is raw talent you can see the progression and potential....I dont see any talent or improvement on this defense....One more year will not make them significantly better.

And to think when the season started everyone thought the Vikings were done, my how times have changed lol

The Vikings are stupid by winning games now. Just more of the same middle of the pack maybe somehow make the playoffs but go nowhere, draft later and miss out on a QB to change things.

What comes first, Vikings SB or Gophers Big Ten title? I've made it 30+ years without either and fully expect 30+ more.

so Our High expectations for Minn get crushed this season. There's no reason we can 't rebound next season too. Look what Fitzgerald has going at northwestern this season after winning only three games last year. I'm not abandoning ship at the first sign of adversity. We will get better.
