Hi Guys,

First off, I see there is a board to sell tickets, but I'm not really selling anything, just looking for input, so I figured its alright to post this here.

I bought two sets of season tiks (one for me and one for my buddy), he and his wife cannot go now on OCT 3, so I have 2 tiks available for Badger game. I see people are paying big $$$ for these on Craigslist (like $175-200 a tik), but I don't want to be contributing of the cause of allowing red in the stadium. Any ideas on what I should do (ie- a compromise between getting these in Gopher fan's hands and not leaving a lot of $$$ on the table, especially when I could use that $$$ right about now)?

Thanks for the input

If you are an ethical person, do a silent auction. Just say one bid per person, and ask for the best price by X date. You'll clearly leave money on the table, but do better than you would otherwise.

Personally, if I had extra tickets I would put them out on ebay and not worry about it. Another option would be a swap.

What do you people think of swaps?

Trade

Find another GOPHER fan that can't make a different game and trade them two Wisconsin tickets for two Michigan State tickets (for example) then find two other friends and invite them to the Mighigan State game and aks them to pay face.

win, win

After having tickets at the Dome I consider getting face for my seats to be a steal when I can’t attend games so that’s all I ask when my buddies take them from me. :) So I guess it depends on what you consider to be “leaving too much money on the table”.

One thought would be to calculate how much it costs you above face to enjoy a gameday (i.e. gas, tailgate food/beer, food/pop @ TCF, a trip to Goldy’s Lockerroom, etc), average that out over 2 tickets, and add that to the face value. That way you are recouping your costs for the day while likely offering the tickets at a pretty fair price that Gopher fans on this board would probably jump on.

The other option (that I like more) is to donate them to Tix for Tots. I’m assuming your buddy already paid you for the seats so you technically aren’t out $$$ there. Plus, they’re deductible as a donation to a charitble organization. And you are helping kids see an amazing event (maybe creating a Gopher fan for life)!

Just sell them on craigslist. Do your best to weed out the Wisconsin buyers based on location, but other than that, get what they are worth. That or sell them at the game to someone wearing gold.

Here's a novel idea, sell them for face value to a Gopher fan. I'm sure you will have plenty of takers. There are lots of people out there for one reason or another who didn't or couldn't get season tickets. Why does everyone have to make a "fortune" selling extra tickets.

I have only 1 rule:

1. Never sell tickets to a Badger/Hawkeye fan!!

Trust me, I have to fight off inlaws/friends who are fans of the team across the river for the Oct. 3rd game this year........fun watching their faces when I tell them I don't sell to Badger fans. Period.

I just think we are overly sensitive to this issue because no one wanted the tickets in previous years. I buy tickets from fans at other schools all the time on the internet.

I'll take them off your hands...darn I should have selected a different moniker :)

I disagree. We need to be very sensitive to the issue of selling tickets to Wisc. or Iowa fans. Just don't do it. No reason is good enough to do such a thing--and I'm not kidding at all..

I had a extra pair this year. Sold the AF tickets for $75 each and the rest we couldn't use I sold at face to Gopher fans. I would rather set them on fire than sell them to ioweee or becky fans.

I totally agree with this one - you shouldn't feel obligated to sell them for face value when they are worth way more. If you feel that you do want to sell to a Gopher fan then pick a value at the low end of the current price range and ask them to bring a copy of their diploma when they pick them up.

based on what you wrote you obviously have a strong internal feeling that you only want to see them in the hands of fellow gopher fans. so, with that said i think you know what is the "right thing to do" here.

i will only say that a man who is willing to put loyalty and state pride over the "all ighty ollar" (a great line from homer simpson) is a great man indeed! :)

I have an extra set that I'm not using for a few years. The tickets my family don't use get sold to other Gopher fans at face value.

I only have 2 rules:

You must cheer loudly for the Gophers and you must wear Gopher gear!

put them on ebay and let em go to the highest bidder. fealties be damned.

The first time Wisconsin went to the Rose Bowl, many Badger fans purchased tickets that were indeed real. However, the original seller had reported tickets stolen, had the tickets canceled and reprinted. Tickets have bar codes, so the new tickets worked and the old tickets did not.

While I am not advocating that you swindle a few Badger fans, I do think it makes a humorous story.

Or...

Sell them to a Gopher Fan who prefers Flip Cup to slices of Pie.

Find some other friends (or your boss, co-worker, etc) to use those two extra tickets. I'm sure you'd rather enjoy a great game sitting next to someone you know than some BADger fans sitting next to you.

Here's my honest opinion on it.

Unless these people are paying your bills for you, don't take their advice and cost yourself money.

In an ideal world, the buyer will be a Gopher fan. But then again, in an ideal world, none of us would have bills to pay.

The thing is, he was asking for people's input and advice. Of course he was going to get different opinions, but in the end, those are his tickets to do whatever he decides.

Exactly. And I offered my opinion, just like everyone else.

And my opinion is that he shouldn't worry about offending people who are angry that he may possibly sell them to a fan of an opposing team, unless they are the ones paying his bills for him.

Really - what is wrong with letting a few of the enemy fans in to The Bank if they are willing to pay a premium? I know some people are anti-Wisconsin, but let's be real here. Part of the fun of attending games is having opposing fans sitting next to you so you can take extra joy in rubbing it in their face when your team does well.

The only reason to fear having the Badger fans at the game is that they would return the favor and rub it in our faces if they won.

But you aren't a true Gopher fan if you don't believe your team is going to win.

Think about it. What is the joy in winning if you have no one to gloat to as it is happening?

Bar codes in 1953? Whatever you say, flipcup.

Yeah, in your face, North Dakota State!

Err, never mind.

You might end up with a chair leg in your eye socket. For the safety of all of us, we're better off just not letting Becky fans in.

there are so many things wrong with that statement i don't even know where to start. have some state pride. it is called "home field" for a reason. that mentality needs to take hold once again starting this year.

this isn't about making sure karl gerbschmidt type tool bags from elk mound, wi can get in and have a swell time with their over-weight and unemployed buddies from chippewa falls, wi. screw becky. i could really care less about sitting next to and rubbing a gopher win in the face of a fat-ass, cheese smelling lout from madistan, wi. would much rather celebrate with a stadium full of gopher fans.

Do what's best for you. They're your tickets, not ours. There's nothing wrong with making a huge profit.

I could be in the same boat. I may be out of town that weekend. No way am I selling the tickets for just face value, but I'd be willing to give a Gopher discount to try and keep smelly Badger fans out of the stadium. If the going rate for my seats was $150/seat, I'd sell them for $125 each to Gopher fans.
