saying: " I only wish I was down there to escort them on a duck walk on the ice and snow back to the hotel" I'm sure the kids thought this was going to be a cake walk with Indiana being without two key players. Hoff playing out of his position had a ton of turnovers tonight. This is a very tough team to watch right now. How many wide open 10-15 footers did Sampson miss? Rodney? His HS and AAU coaches should be ashamed of themselves for not developing his game beyond the dunk. The kids need to somehow scratch out 9 wins and 1 in the BTT to get in the dance.

Hello ruppert! Mussy would not have allowed that performance. He had too much passion.

beej: I was wondering what you thought of that final substitution with 5 seconds left when Tubby put in Maverick for Chip.

I love Chip, he gives this team life that they often lack, but that was the right substitution, Chip is not a good three point shooter and Maverick appears to be pretty good. No problem with that.

You're prolly right - but that was not a very pretty last possession. If Mav handled that ball cleanly Hoff might have had a shot at the 3. All in all It was a gutsy comeback - but a bad loss.

Coach Bill was coaching the Gophers when I attended the "U".

I like Tubby as a coach and I think he is an even better person. Coach Muss would have never put up with a performance like tonight. He would have found a lineup that worked and wanted to play hard to win. There was no passion tonight and you could see Tubby was frustrated. Tubby needs to play his best players and that might be RW coming off the bench. Blake should be a "2" where he can help this team win. Coach Muss lost to teams with better talent but he NEVER lost to teams with inferior talent like indiana tonight.

Mussy would have recruited real men...who wouldn't have allowed that performance.

Face it, we stunk out the gym tonight.

Not entirely true. Final Big Ten game of 1973 at Northwestern-Cats 79-74 when Muss and his Gophers were ranked 3rd in the nation. Back-to-back losses to Iowa, at home, and NW cost them the title. The pain still lingers.

You are right.

If I remember right NW had a hot shooting guard that couldn't miss. In the iowa game wasn't Jim Brewer under the weather? I also remember kevin kunnert (some people you just don't forget-like luke witte) had his elbows flying and got away with murder.

Brewer and Clyde Turner are two of my all time favorite Gopher players. In my first Gopher game I saw Brewer play against Marquette when I believe they the # 1 team in the country and coached by Al McGuire. Brewer was great but lost a close one!
