My man was a 92 overall 4 star out of HS had a decent 2023.

With guys like Loya, Tracy, Lanier, Brockington and Williams it looks like Coleman may not be a thing?

I think he lead UCLA in receiving each of the last two years. Great pick up. The receiver room definitely has some talent. If the line and QB do their jobs, I think with the receivers and the running back room we have, we can be very explosive.

For getting more experienced depth at a position of need, and with apologies to Ray Davies:

“We met him in a club called the ol’ Portal
Where you find new ‘cruits to meet and then get to know-ya.
L-o-y-a, Loya
La-la-la-la Loya!”

Maybe not the right place to ask but did anyone have an idea of where we are with scholarships/roster spots? Feels like we needed to lose a lot of guys (mostly walkons I get that) with the new roster rules, and have added quite a bit.

Back to the topic, I like Loya, feels like he slots into Spencer's spot. Nice to take from inside the conference!

Good get – – it would be really nice if we could start getting some Ernie Wheelright body types. Bigger always trumps smaller even at WR and we seem to always be flush with the latter.

I’m not mad about it at all. It’ll be interesting to see who transfers out if any.

He was 6'5"?!?

How many WRs are that size?? I also prefer a bigger receiver. Williams is listed as 6'3" and Smith is 6'1". Looks like a couple of the signees are 6'2"-6'3" as well.

The TE room seems to have some bigger guys with Julian Johnson topping out at 6'6"

If I had to guess quite a few guys will realize where they are in the pecking order after Spring ball and hit the portal. Maybe some a few days after the bowl game as well. Numbers always seem to work themselves out

Will see, Lanier, Williams, McWilliams haven't proven anything yet. Absolutely take Coleman if he wants to Row
Curiously, and despite his freak athletic abilities, Nebraska fans (at least those on the Husker Board) aren't particularly sad to see Coleman transfer out. Their claims are that Coleman doesn't try hard on contested balls (despite being 6'4"), doesn't block effectively on running downs and screen passes, and appears not particularly motivated to excel at football. Could just be sour grapes, of course, as they probably hate to see a Nebraska kid, from Omaha, escape the program. I think the Gophs should take a flyer on Coleman (you can't teach tall with top-end speed) if he is interested in playing football the PJ way. Coleman was the 60th rated HS player in the nation last year and started 6 games for Nebraska as a true freshman. He should have been a Koi Perich type--and maybe still could be. He could be a real downfield threat, something we seem desperate for. Go Gopher!

Maybe he'll be going to law school so he can become a Loya.

Wha

What has Coleman proven?
More than those guys as he actually got on the field but it doesn't really matter what Coleman has done, the point is you shouldn't not take someone because a guy who you liked coming out of high school who hasn't proven anything might get mad and leave. Iron sharpens iron and bastards and cream always rides to the top. If someone leaves because they don't want to compete then they probably weren't good enough anyways. As for Coleman he might be a stud, he might be the next Dylon Wright, who knows. If he wants to be here may the best player emerge

Sounds like Dylan Wright

Definitely worth the gamble as long as he isn’t a train wreck in the locker room or off the field.

Great the see these transfers picking the Gopher program!

If we get the right group of transfers, and the right schedule, why can't we be the team that does what Indiana did this year?

when Fleck - on National Signing Day - said he expected to take "10 to 15" transfers - well, anyone can do the math and see that means that a number of current rostered players would not be returning as the team works toward the new 105 roster limit.

and - gasp - I suspect that Fleck and his staff know exactly who those players will be. I suspect that they have already had conversations with them and let them know - as nicely as possible - that they should consider other options.

in the future, this will not be as necessary as teams learn to live within the 105 limit. but this year, there will be a lot of displacement of players who were at the bottom end of their respective depth charts.

college football may be a sport, but now, more than ever, it's a business - and sometimes it's a very ruthless business.

and the players who get displaced will have opportunities if they're willing to drop down to low-major teams, FCS or D2.

Physically, yes; maybe even more natural ability. But Coleman just finished his true freshman year--could probably still be molded into a player in a program like PJ's. I'd like to see him here. Coleman, given his potential upside, however, might simply be seeking enhanced NIL money. Who knows?

I would guess a handful may have made it known that they will transfer after the bowl game. I don’t think it works like Fleck just rug pulls 10 guys. You can’t yank the scholarships for performance.

Coaches show kids the door all the time and let them know their time is up and they need a new home. May not classify as yanking scholarships but they aren’t just going to let someone stick around if they aren’t improving or if they are over their head.
