today about 1:15.

Reusse was talking about Tubby getting a 'free ride' from the media and fans. Said the article about player transfers was warranted and the situation is concerning. Then Mackey(I think) stated Paul Carter's transfer was not all about his sister, "he wasn't happy with the organization", or pretty close to that. Is this all bs or is there anything to it.

BS if you believe Carter himself.

Many will believe the two Gopher media slugs.

Carter could just be a class guy who isn't going to bad mouth Tubby publicly, but he doesn't seem like the type to really do it privately either, so who knows?

I really don't think Tubby's getting a "free pass", but that could just be cause I'm on Gopherhole too much lol. What is Ruesse looking for? Does he think people should be calling for his job? I don't know what we're supposed to do to a coach who's 12-4 and has the team in the top 25 besides grief on his substitution patters and 3 pt defense philosophy.

He must have been reading the thread that Art got embarrassed on.

For the most part, Tubby has had and continues to receive a free ride.

Just the way it is.

It will be pretty obvious by the trend over time. Any more than an average of one transfer a year is going to get accessive. That is four schollies out of what thirteen. when you get to 1.5 a year you lose almost half of those initially offered. That is pretty high to be successful unless you are doing one and done recruiting.

Reusse has admitted negative feelings about Gopher Basketball. On the sports show he has said he is not a Winter sports guy. He says he is not comfortable with the court side chairs at the barn. He said he never doubted that the teams come back at OSU would fall short. Reusse is a very intelligent guy who just doesn't feel any attachment to Gopher basketball.

Lets face it. The money sports at the U have had some tough times and Reusse is not a rah, rah, rah, guy.

Part of it is that Tubby is not very friendly with the media ... Why isn't Tubby on every Sunday (during the Gopher season) with Sid and Dave for example? They've been talking w/Coach Kill now for 3 weeks and not a word from Tubby... Yes he does his show on FSN/BTN (contracts I'm sure) with not many Q's that Tubby doesn't want to talk about on those shows.. Tubby doesn't seem like the most accessible dude in town, and that probably ticks off members of the media. No problem with that, but Tubby seems to believe in my way, or the highway with his dealings and the media.

BarnBurner, please for a change offer an idea up. i never understood what it means when someone says a coach is getting a free ride. should we have pitch forks outside his home for only going to the dance two times in three years? do you read gh? people are ripping his sub patterns, ripping for not getting more shooters, ripping for not calling a better play against osu at buzzer and more. 1500 am is criticizing him, myron and marcus have criticized him, kfan rips him for losing devoe and on and on. so, what do you mean by he's getting a free ride? please offer specifics and ideas on what not getting a free ride should look like.

Well said. People quickly forget how much it sucks to be 12-18 and missing the postseason as opposed to being 21-14 and being a perennial tournament player.

Getting a free ride?!?!? Gimme a break. What? Why? Because we didn't wipe out Indiana at home? Because we lost 3 very tough road games? Should we be furious at Tubby because he hasn't yet delivered a Big Ten title and a Final Four?

Let's get real here. Its early. He's already accomplished the task of bringing the program from the bottom half of the B-10 to respectability. Check that off. NCAA appearances? Check (twice). Regularly beating ranked opponents? Check (multiple times). In four years, I'd say I'm pretty pleased with our ascent. And that's what it is, AN ASCENT. The program as a whole continues to get better. Yes there will be times when things stagnate or look down, but the overall trend is upward. Last year's strong finish of the regular season and B-10 tourney were outstanding, and a strong indicator of what Tubby's teams are capable of (anybody remember how we destroyed Purdue, on essentially their home court?).

If we're in the same place 2 years from now, then the Reusse's and BarnBurner's will have a valid point. Until then, quit acting like Tubby is failing here.

You're way too old to refer to someone as a dude.:cool02:

It never fails...those who can do...those who can't do radio and TV...this guy is way too jealous of coach for any of us to take him seriuosly...he probably spends a lot of time showing off his runner up tiddly winks trophy he got in 3rd grade. That's the closest this clown will ever get to winning anything while our coach has won the toughest championship in sports...he has been a class act everywhere he has been all the while never having anything but the best concern for his players. We are lucky to have him and I will agree with everyone on this board who says some have forgotten what it's like to not even be in the mix. We are 12-4 ranked in the top 25 and will be in the big dance...some just need to shut up and enjoy the ride...but then again some will complain even if they have a silver spoon in their mouth.

Reusse has long forgotten how to craft a meaningful story, and has lost all the energy to do the work necessary to find interesting angles to sports stories. He's become a fat, lazy contrary old fart who has realized that the easiest way to have people pay attention to you is to try to anger them constantly. He's like the baby who discovers that crying will get people to look at you. Frankly, it's absolutely a worthless endeavor listening to him. It's sad, too, because he's one of the few talented writers in either sports section (maybe the only one). However, he's long ago given up on trying. He's a pathetic, bitter old man, and he's sunk to the level of a hack. Souhan, for example, seems to try hard, but is a terrible writer because he's not all that smart, and simply doesn't have the horses. Reusse, on the other hand, has talent, and has just chosen the easy way. It's sad.

I agree to some degree on Reusse. He can still bring it when he wants to, but his best columns are almost always about the 'good old days' now. The column he wrote about Bert Blyleven last week was great. But when forced to write about something from this century, we get a half effort at best. I supppose it could happen to any of us, mailing it in a bit after putting in our 30 years. But it's still too bad.

As for Souhan, not only is he not very good, I can't buy the 'he tries hard' angle. The worst examples are the awful columns about the NCAA's last year. But even on his one pet team, the Twins, he's sub-par. He wrote a column about trading Delmon Young that generated a lot of discussion. It wasn't a bad premise. But he wanted him traded to the Astros for Roy Oswalt. When it was pointed out the Astros had 3 young OF'ers and wouldn't want Young, he was totally caught of guard and had no answer. So he'd put out this 'big' column without doing even the most basic reasearch to back it up.

If you have negative feelings toward "fat" people and "old farts", I guess that's your business. To me that just makes you sound like your not worth listening to.

Nothing wrong with your conclusions. Just the way you go about coming to these conclusions.

Just think in terms of comparison GO4 - all the specifics YOU need are right there.

just as i suspected little one. hypocrisy continues to be thy name.

hilarious. laughable. interesting. nxet.

Spot On!!

It is about time that a coach in Minnesota gets a free ride. Tubby deserves a free ride. Tubby deserves our support. Maybe if we actually allow that to happen, he will build the kind of program that we all say we want. Maybe we may even win a championship.

To even suggest that the so called columnist that you are referring to could even make a good logical argument about anything, is beyond my comprehension.
