Late notice, but I thought I'd let you know that MSBN is kicking off its coverage of high school basketball tonight with a match-up of two of the top teams in class "AAA", the Benilde-St. Margaret's Red Knights and the Saint Thomas Academy Cadets. Game time is set for 7:30 pm, so if you've got nothing better to do, go ahead and listen in!

Also, while this game will be an audio broadcast (as has been in the past), MSBN will be adding video broadcasting to this winter's action as well! We hope to release our initial schedule in the next few days, but I think we'll have some very attractive match-ups to listen and watch coming up, so watch for that in the coming days as well! Further, we will hopefully be announcing in the next few days that AT LEAST one former Golden Gopher basketball player will be working with us on some color commentary duties, which should be exciting as well! Stay Tuned!

Did anyone listen to this or know the result before the strib posts it? Thanks.

Obviously, I was at this game, and I will tell you right now...Benilde-St. Margaret's put everyone on notice tonight that they are the team to beat in 3A, and frankly, they would have beaten anyone in the state tonight.

On this night, they had a tremendous amount of depth...ten players scored, and 13 played in the game. STA, which by no means was a bad team, had all sorts of trouble keeping up with the Red Knights. BSM clearly is a team that wants to get up the court quickly and push the ball, and they did that tonight, forcing one turnover after another.

Further, they can shoot...they hit 12 three-pointers tonight. I was particularly impressed with Isaiah Zierdan (Don Zierdan's son)...he is the point guard for the team; he had 10 points in the first half, including a couple of threes. He ran the offense extremely well, and he's a sophomore, so he's got lots of time left.

They also have a senior forward, Seth Marx, who hit five threes in the game tonight, and off the bench is Even Battle, who is a junior and, I would presume, is the younger brother of Taylor Battle. He had some problems with foul trouble tonight, but he's also going to get better as the year goes on.

Overall, like I said, if Benilde-St. Margaret's plays the whole season like they did tonight, they could beat anybody. Had they not emptied their bench and pulled up the last eight minutes or so, they could have made a run at 100 points tonight. If you have a chance to see this team play, I would do so...they are very entertaining, at least on this night.

I'm hoping you mean Armand and not a misspelled Penn State point guard.

HA! Nice Catch...If you'll notice, it was 2:30 am when I posted it, and I guess I was checking out...Indeed, it's Armand's younger brother.
