Lindsey Whalen And Hutchinson

"This is Minnesota, where there are really only two seasons: winter, and whatever Isn't winter. On the warmest days of the latter, everyone wants to grab the precious opportunity to be outdoors. This is the Land of 10,000 Lakes, after all, and those are especially pleasant when they're not iced over."

Yet another writer takes the lazy & uninformed route, the overused cliche about Minnesota being nothing but an icebox. Yes, it's always freezing cold here, even in July & August when there's sweltering heat & humidity. Do any of these reporters do their own homework?

"From one side of town to the other," Whalen said. "When I was a kid, there was this group of other kids who would play every sport you could think of. We'd get home from school around 2:45, have a snack and then meet at 3:15 and play until dinner. Whether it was snowing or nice.

That's all we ever did too. I'm fairly glad I grew up before the video game, computer generation.

I second that. Too many kids put their faces in front of computer screens/Wi/texting, etc., instead of playing outside for hours on end. Shooting hoops in the driveway, playing sandlot football or baseball. ... seems like they've all become extinct. No wonder there's such a huge (pun intended) problem with fat children.

Then what we actually have is a huge (pun intended) problem with fat parents letting their kids put their faces in front of computer screens, etc.

I grew up in Hutchison during the late 1950s and 1960s, moved to Mpls after graduating HS in the early 1970s and moved out of state permanently in 1979. I love to tell others of all my fond memories of small town Minnesota and Minnesota itself as a whole(of course everybody expects me to talk like the movie, "Fargo"). The way I can best explain it is that it was a truly wonderfully place to be from, but it was not meant for me to stay there.

It's definitely a lot easier reading Whalen quotes than hearing them. :)

She was terrific in Phoenix today as the Lynx swept Phoenix to reach their first WNBA Finals. Since the Vikings are sucking might as well already buy your tickets for Game 1 next Sunday v. Indiana/Atlanta winner.

NICE!

At least ONE Minnesota team is having some success - ironically one of its all-time worst franchises.

Way to go, Lynx and Lindsay!

She really was impressive on Sunday. That spin move to the fading left jump shot right before the half was really, really nice. I've been going to all of the playoff games and I must say they have been much more fun to watch than I anticipated.

Lynx win title! 3-0 sweep of Atlanta! Whalen's first title in her 3rd try.

Didn't get a chance to see game three due to having to work, but the first two games were pretty exciting. No doubt, the Lynx have built themselves quite a team. As for Lindsay, it goes without saying that having her back in the state has been awesome!!!
