per the Lincoln Journal Star:

Game mode: Fourth-year coach Jerry Kill has established a sound football team that knows its identity and won’t beat itself. Those are traits you see in teams challenging for a divisional championship. The defense will be sound, with seven returning starters, including four seniors in the secondary. Athleticism has improved on both sides of the ball, and the Gophers, unlike some past teams, aren’t lacking in confidence.

Obstacles: Question marks remain on offense, where the Gophers must replace their top two playmakers, including running back David Cobb. A passing game that ranked 119th nationally last season lacks oomph at wide receiver, and the schedule isn’t favorable. The Gophers’ crossover games are at Ohio State and Michigan.

Game changer: Nebraska fans will remember cornerback Briean Boddy-Calhoun, who stripped the football from De'Mornay Pierson-El to help the Gophers hold off the Huskers 28-24 in Lincoln. Boddy-Calhoun had five interceptions last season and is among four seniors in a talented Minnesota secondary.
