I know it's an extremely long shot, but the mood is good, the optimism is high. Let's talk hypothetical for a second.

What needs to happen for the Gophers to make the B10 title game at this point?

obviously MINN goes 4-0.

Mich Loses at MSU and OSU

Mich St. loses at Nebraska and to the Gophers in the last week
Iowa loses to either Mich or Neb
Neb loses at Michigan leaving 3 two loss teams

Gophers
Mich St.
Nebraska

Gophers hold the 2-0 tie break, and play Ohio St. in the B10 title game?

:clap: Very very very small possibility it happens, but it's fun to talk about!

It would certainly be a " Cinderella story " In order of toughnes ; games remaining.
1. At MSU
2. Wisconsin
3. At Indiana
4. PSU

Path to a Legends Division Title

Ok everyone, don't blast me. Just want to start a thread now to see who we're rooting for in the coming weeks knowing what we know now. Obviously Minnesota has to win out to have a hope given 2 losses. Let's assume that happens, what results are we looking for to get Iowa & Michigan to 3 losses and keep an edge over MSU & Nebraska? Any cross-division game should be a no brainer as it serves a loss without benefiting another division opponent. Beyond that

- Northwestern - any wins they get from here on out help us. They play Nebraska, Michigan, and MSU. All contenders. ROOT FOR THE WILDCATS (besides, they're a likeable team and coach)
- MSU - loss vs Gophers + 1 more. Prefer it to be vs. Northwestern and/or Nebraska so they can help get Michigan to 3 BT losses.
- Michigan - (1 loss already) root for everyone to beat these chumps. They need 2 more losses and that may be tough to come by. MSU, Nebraska, OSU are good teams to root for, Iowa in a pinch if Michigan still only has 1 loss by them.
- Nebraska - (1 loss already vs MN) - one more will do it. Cross-division vs PSU later on is a good one to root for, but failing that it would be great to see them lose another vs Northwestern and Iowa if needed.
- Iowa - (2 losses already) hate to say this, but root for Wisconsin to trounce them and then Iowa can play spoiler in our favor vs Michigan and/or Nebraska if needed.

So, for next week, tune in and root for Wisconsin vs. Iowa, MSU to beat Mich, and Northwestern to beat Nebraska. And obviously the Gophers to trounce Indiana.

Yes it is low probability, but vastly better than the odds on a powerball ticket!

Nothing wrong with improbable dreaming.

In order for this dream to become a reality, we absolutely have to win out. I'll check back in 4 weeks to see where we sit if we are 9-2.

We only need Michigan to lose twice more, Nebraska once and Michigan State twice including us. We can end in a tie with all and have the tie breaker against all but Michigan. And I do believe the new tiebreaker is highest ranked of the tied teams, and if that's the case that could be us winning out. Especially after Michigan loses the last game of the year to OSU, which will happen either way. Nice to dream about, but I'll check back at 9-2 as well.

To quote Jim "So you say we have a chance!"

Hard to believe Michigan State could have a spot in the B1G title game clinched with two weeks left in the season simply by winning its next two games (Michigan, @ Nebraska). If Sparty does that, the Gophers would be the only team that could catch 'em, but that would require the Gophers win out.

While it is kind of fun to lay out the scenarios this thread feels two weeks pre-mature to me. If we get to the next bye week and we are still sitting at 2 losses then the possibility becomes very real. Way to early to be thinking title, let's see what happens at Indiana this weekend and then go from there.

Just wanted to take a look at who we want to root for. Yes, we need to win the Indiana and PSU games... but we'd also have to win vs Wisc and MSU anyway. It's not like we, as fans, devoting any energy to "focusing" on the Indiana game will change its outcome.

This!

I'd be more than happy if we could win 8 games and get a New Year's Day or later bowl. Do we get that with 8 wins or does it take 9? I think 8 is best case this year but I agree we'll know the lay of the land in two weeks.

They really should've checked with you before creating this thread.

If I had to guess, I'd say we would need to finish 9-3 (5-3) to get to what one considers a "traditional" New Year's Day Bowl (that being BCS, Capital One or Outback). 8-4 (4-4) probably puts us firmly middle-of-the-pack when it comes to standings (almost assuredly Ohio State [already at 4 wins], Michigan State [already at 4 wins] and Wisconsin [still get Indiana and PSU at home] would finish with better B1G records).
