What a beginning of a journey under Kill. Remember back from whence we've come. We were burdened with one of the most ignorant AD's of all time. He fired a head coach for losing a bowl game in overtime. Not to re-hash whether or not Mason should have gone, but to shoot him without a clue as to his replacement was unimaginable.

We then hired one of the most energetic and well meaning people on earth. Someone who wanted to win as badly as we did. Someone that didn't have a clue about running a big time college football program. Our AD essentially hired someone in his own image. The results...well, we remember the results.

After shooting this coach mid-year the AD waited almost until national signing day to find his replacement, Jerry Kill...WHO.??

In two and 2/3 years under Kill we have seen a remarkable turn around. 3-11, 6-8 and now 6-2. The team two weeks ago hung on to beat an arguably better team with more highly recruited athletes. Last week we played a very good team with unarguably better athletes and we dismantled them. The previous week we were a bit surprised but hung on. Last week there was no surprise on the faces of our young athletes and they didn't hang on they laid a whoop-arse on 'em!

Where this team is now v where they were four years ago and the progress is no less than amazing. If we can win 1 or 2 more we get to a better bowl game, our coach will be considered for B1G Coach of the year (I think he should be right now).

Amazingly, the reason is all so simple, Head Coaching. Kill has a plan, he has an obviously amazing ability to select assistants who can help him achieve the plan and he can identify and teach young men to execute the plan. Overriding all this is the man himself who is selfless, dedicated, sincere and instills in those around him a rare dedication.

Thank you coach Kill, no matter what happens the rest if the year. Take care and get better.

Thanks for writing this. The only way Kill is B1G COY is if we win at least 3 more, and it might take 4 to have a shot if Urban Myer wins out.

Well, which is it? One of the most ignorant ADs of all time or the AD that hired Jerry Kill, who'd be Big Ten Coach of the Year according to you?

Maturi waited until Northern Illinois lost in the MAC title game and hired Kill on Dec. 6, 59 days before signing day.

Ok, while I don't really disagree with anything you said, and no one is rooting for Jerry more than me, but I think it is funny that two wins over two teams with issues and all our troubles are finally behind us. Plus those two wins came when Jerry wasn't coaching. Don't know what it means other that there are still a lot of questions that need to be answered.

Also, this isn't really directed at you as much as the overall attitude around here.

While I'm with you on this -- three weeks ago the team and coaches sucked at today we've got this boat turned around -- I wouldn't go quite as far. It bugged me before the season started that we "might be better but won't see it it in the record" because the schedule is so difficult. I think at some point you have to start climbing over teams eventually, schedule be damned. Well, it seems we have climbed over Northwestern (for now) and beat one of those teams that made the schedule look so tough.

I don't know what "issues" you think Nebraska has. Maybe they're in a down year? So? We've been down for 40years. And Northwestern's injuries? We've been missing our starting cornerback since the second play of the season. Nobody is feeling sorry for us -- they just say that pass defense is a weakness.

Is it time to build a statue for Jerry Kill? No. Have we made progress? It looks like it. We still have four games to learn more.

Thanks for the input, Rebecca. ;)

Who said all our troubles are behind us? What are these questions? If there are "a lot," maybe you should start listing them now so we have time to get to them all.

I'm not sure how to prove it, but I think there ARE some folks rooting for JERRY more than you. You want the Gophers to win and that's good, but it doesn't really seem like you're paying attention. Jerry has been coaching the last two weeks. You must have been gone. Welcome back. We've got something exciting brewing here.

That's fair. I think we are pretty much agreeing. As for the issues, Nebraska's D sucks, their fault, but Martinez was still pretty banged up. As for NW, yeah, two key offensive weapons out with injuries. Not the same team as the first part of the season. But not complaining and thrilled about the wins.

Nebraska has a really bad defense and Northwestern was dealing with major injuries on offense. Doesn't change the fact that both were quality wins just looking like both of those teams are going to fall well short of their pre-season expectations (not basing this just on losing to the Gophers but rather their season to date).

I think the bottom line is it is too early to really say what kind of season this is going to be. At the minimum we know that the team will not take a step back in Big Ten record which is a very good thing and assuming we can win at least one of the next 4 the record will improve which in my mind is the most significant sign of improvement.

I think what we are seeing right now is that this staff is going to be able to get things back to Mason levels, what we don't know is if they have what it takes to bring the team to the next level. Kill's health and the potential long term implications if he can't get things under control seizure wise are the only factors casting a bit of a negative cloud over the future of the program.

Sorry just saw this. I'm not really going to respond to this other than to say, when I said I was rooting for Jerry more than anyone, it was more of an expression than fact. But I really really like the guy and hope he can get this health thing figured. Awesome dude/coach.
