It's not the talent...it's the coaching...I'm too convinced now...

Mason's teams never looked this bad even with far inferior talent against better teams...

Mason's problem wasn't his coaching ability. But his program wasn't any better. It's not even worth talking about.

And yes this was the most poorly prepared performance I remember seeing. That is a coaching problem.

Any chance we can quit with the Mason references? He was a brutal coach too, just in a different way. So let's dispense with pining away for the days of Masonball, ok? It really wasn't materially better than what we have now.

Agreed. How good Mason was or wasn't has absolutely zero bearing on the situation and prospects for the future with Brewster are. It would be like comparing Brewster to Wacker or Salem, etc. Maybe an interesting excercise, but not really relevant.

Where is this talent you speak of? Aside from Bennett and Gray nobody on the field looks to be worth a damn. I don't think I've seen a slower DE than Matt Garin. That kid is going to get killed against B10 teams.

If they knew they were weak at the DE position, why didn't they move Jacobs back to end. That I do not understand.

Can you imagine how a player as versatile as Stoudamire would be used in the right hands? Or the fact that Gray can't be coached out of being able to contain the ball? He should at minimum be as good as Dante Warren & in the right hands could be Denard Robinson/Tyrelle Pryor status...

Talent has to nurtured...polished...*COACHED*...that falls on Brewster...

There is no way in hell Boise State had the better players in that game against Oklahoma just like there is no way in hell South Dakota has more talent then the Gophers...& we've seen this scenario far too many times in the last 3 years where Brew is outcoached & outmatched against teams who are supposed to be inferior all around the board...

It was a terribly disappointing game, wasn't it?

I can't find too much fault with the offense, they scored 38 and though they could have scored more by cutting down on mistakes, that should have been enough for a blowout win. It was the D that stunk, and that's hard to explain, because Cosgrove is a competent big-time coach. Not great, but definitely competent.

Making things more puzzling, the Gophs were coming off a win against a bowl-winning squad. So we know they were good enough and talented enough to beat USD.

I don't know what you can say, except that these things do happen. Give Brewster the rest of this season and if you're still unhappy, bringing someone else. But keep this in mind for the sake of perspective: our Gophers, who some "experts" predicted would only win one or two games this year, is 1-1 with a win against a bowl team.

And a loss to a team that 3 years ago was a D2 school. That "1" win that experts were giving us was supposed to be against USD...if we get 4 wins we will be lucky

I believe we'll catch someone looking ahead...

Kinda like the 93' Wisconsin team...

No, he's not.

Kansas came back from a loss to NDSU and beat heavily favored GA Tech, we'll do the same to USC. USC barely beat Virginia yesterday and are primed for an upset.

Maybe our talent is not much better than theirs. High 2 star to low 2 star probably doesn't make much difference when the lower one wants to win more.

The only player I would take was Warren over Weber...but then again if we had a guy who could coach Gray I'm guessing he would be every bit as good as Warren. We had MUCH more talent than USD. This loss solely falls on the coaches. And it's not just the gameday coaching, its preparation, the offseason, everything that goes into winning football games.
