The suspension has been long enough. Bring him back and see if he keeps his nose clean

Let Tubby and Maturi handle it!

There's no plausible reason for either the coach or AD to unnecessarily prolong this ... I'm convinced that there's more to this than (m)any of us know. They're balancing a number of different issues when making the decision and I'm wholly comfortable with their decisions to date.

I agree with our point of view wholly. Still, considering how long this is taking and the additional pain for Royce because of his high profile, I can understand the frustration many fans have. Sometimes it does seem more like torture than justice.

Exactly

Once a thief - always a thief. It is the most basic indication of a person's character. If someone is willing to steal $100 from the Mall of America, there is no amount of money they will not be willing to steal, and no lie they will not be willing to tell - if they think they can get away with it. Age is no excuse. Ten year old children know that it is wrong to steal.

It is absolutely outrageous that Tubby Smith did not immediately suspend Royce White for a minimum of one year when White pleaded quilty of theft and assault at the MOA. Anything White might be responsible for in the theft of the laptop is just more fuel for the fire.

Royce White needs to be gone from the U of M. The sooner the better.

Talk about being close-minded...geez.

Agreed. I think Tubby and Maturi have handled this one about right. Difficult to speculate what additional stuff there may or may not be but they seem to know what they are doing. I'm generally skeptical of power coaches (and Tubby is one) but I respect the position that he and his boss have taken. If Royce returns to the team, great. If not, that's fine, too.

Bring him and Mbwake back, fire Tubby, and call Tark The Shark if Huggy won't leave WV.

If i was responsible I am not sure that I would let either of them play. I don't see why both are not practicing with the team though. Then at a point where a final decision was made they are either on the team or gone. It would be another way to determine their commitment to playing basketball to see if they work hard without the chance to get in a game. The complete suspension makes no sense.

Ulmer

Every mention of Royce brings back visions of players stepping on Jim Dutchers back on there way out to the court after they were told they were sitting. If this finally gets the point across that in order to play at the U you will man up or else then this is being handled just fine.

Dutch was not a disciplinarian, but preferred to believe his players were adults, and was proven wrong. As most have noted, I suspect that there is much more to this than is known publicly. I suspect the reason Mbakwe practices and Royce does not is that some of Royce's problem is team related and not just the outside stuff we know about.

It appears we have a few on the board who would be perfect in the constable role in Les Mis. People do change, and those changes make great stories of the possibilities in the human condition.

Merry Christmas!

I don't think anyone is ruling out change for Royce. Maturation can happen and be documented elsewhere just as easily as at Minnesota where the program may get tarnished along the way. The kid is showing that he isn't ready for D-I basketball off the court. A change of environment might be the proper first step toward attaining self-discipline and rehabilitation.
