Other then Cobb who was amazing the leader's on our team today are the ones who did not play well. The young kids hung in there and other than Cobb and BBC the other leadership group type players didn't step up to the plate.

I'd argue in games against superior talent, we ask our defensive players to do too much. Linebackers are the last line of defense (as safeties aren't where normal safeties are). And Murray and BBC are left on their own. The wide open TD was due to the CB releasing the player to the safety and the safety deciding to jump an out route that was already covered. We made errors, and Ohio St made more. I'm sure they are happy to win this game and get the hell out of here, much as Meyer said after the game. I don't think you can expect more out of Mitch, as that is who he is. Cobb was a man again, which was great to see. We need those freshmen receivers to group up quick this offseason and see what we can do then. All in all, the final score will say we lost by 7 to Ohio St. More than Vegas thought we'd do.

My guess is it was on Murray. The defender covering the slot receiver was playing man to man and it appeared Wells expected Murray to play man to man as well. More logical that one guy blew the coverage than two guys.

Give what a rest, we had some of our big knockers lay an egg today. Didn't see that coming.

How was their "body language" and "spark rating" tho? Your posts are the least knowledgeable that appear on this site... and that is no easy task. You must really be "mentally focused" on that.

Tuba or trombone player?

Maybe it's not so much a lack of knowledge, but rather petulance. There are a few fickle Gopher fans who aren't able to rationally deal with things not going their way and grasp at snarky reasons to explain it.

Actually think sometimes I'm watching a different game than some of you. Wilson, Thompson, possibly Murray and certainly Leidner were a bit off their game and on the defense of side of the ball it surprised me because some missed plays by our leadership type guys led directly to long plays which ultimately where the difference. I would say that OSU's stars stepped up, and at least for one game ours did not as much as we were used to; save for BBC and certainly Cobb

Please fill us in on the body language, spark, and mental focus situation for these players. Thanks in advance.

I will expand on that as soon as you confirm for me which instrument you played in the band. Or, you could ask Mitch about it over dinner tonight.

I hate to disappoint you, but I wasn't in band. Always thought it was cool and would have liked to, but didn't have time in HS with other obligations.

Indi - I would suggest you not rip on band tho as when you grow up to be a big boy, say junior high or high-school, you may change your mind and decide to join band. You never know?

I love the band, but you don't have to be "on" to play in the band. Anybody who has any knowledge of sports understands body language and whether a person is on during a particular game. Someone on another thread and thought Mitch looked like he was hung over. I don't know about that but he certainly didn't look like he had a lot of spark to me. That seems to be a foreign concept to you but then again not surprising considering your history here.

Thanks for revealing you don't have a clue about playing in a band either. Failing to understand that someone can play an instrument with passion or mail it in tells me your chances of understanding the complicated game of football is possibly in the future, but certainly not the present. Perhaps you're hung over. Sometimes players don't make all the great plays you'd like them to. Sometimes it's lack of effort, but I'm pretty sure that wasn't the case Saturday. Sometimes coaches, like the fairly successful bunch at OSU, call the right play for the right situation, often as a result of film study. We missed some plays -- several over the course of 60 minutes -- and still were in a position to win if a couple go differently. Stop telling us the sky is falling.

I didn't see anything different from a body language standpoint than we've seen all year. He got excited on the TD's, I'm not really sure what you're trying to get at.

I thought he looked three quarters of a stop slow, he was clearly reluctant to keep the ball on the read option, and overall I just thought he looked sluggish. Maybe was just me.

I written this other places as well, but I wonder if sometimes it isn't truly an option play. Meaning, they run everything exactly the same but he is told to hand it off no matter what. I wouldn't be surprised if they do this to cut down on the number of hits he gets a game.

That's a very astute observation. There are times I think Claeys outthinks himself a bit. He and Kill are both "go for the jugular" guys and when you're on the wrong end of the talent gap, I think you sometimes need to dial it back a bit. I didn't see the TD pass to Thomas (if that's the one you are referring to), but I was listening and Grim seemed to imply blown coverage. On the TD pass to Spencer, I thought tOSU really "counterpunched" us to perfection (and that's something we've seen too much of in the conference season). In both instances, I think your observation is correct.

Cedrick Thompson led the team in tackles with double digits...Damien Wilson had 8. What more do u want playing against a team loaded with NFL players? Ohio st's Offense is much more potent than there defense!

It seems like we get burned on those WR screens more than most. Teams tend to "know" when we're bringing an all out blitz and that is the perfect play against it. Maybe we're a little too obvious with some of our blitz calls or they're easy to see coming.

I can't imagine that if you actually watched the game you would post the attached. Thompson missed on one maybe two assignments that resulted in TDs and Wilson was suckered on the first td. They played hard just not clean enough for us to win.

Getting back to original post - I guess I would have to know which "leaders" on the team you are referring to.

Generally, on most teams, you expect your seniors to be the leaders. If you are including Leidner on your list, I would just point out that Leidner is a redshirt sophomore who is in his 1st year as a full-time starter. Yes, the QB on most teams is a key position, and you would like your QB to be a leader, but I am willing to cut Leidner some slack. Now, if he is playing the same way at this point of the season next year, then that is a problem - but for this year, I'm not going to heap all the blame on Leidner.

And, FWIW, we are not talking about machines or professional athletes here - we are talking about 18, 19, 20-yr old young men. They are going to make mistakes. If you step back and look at the big picture, then I am still pleased with the progress this program is showing under Kill. The trajectory is upward. If your stock portfolio had the same upward trajectory, you would be pleased.

Unless you know what coverage was called, you can assume who blew the coverage. On the one wide open touchdown it could have been the cb's guy

Yea I watched the game..I seen Ced get beat on a pass for a TD that he missed breaking up by about a half of inch. If the ball was underthrown by an in inch its a PBU.Could he have played that better? maybe but at the sametime the ball placement of that pass was impeccable. I didnt say the players were flawless. I just pointed out there production.

I do think he deserves some blame though. He should have reached with his left hand which would have given him a few extra inches to get to the ball. I don't know why he reached with his right.

Stats. Some don't need them. Unless of course they support their agenda at which point they are king.
