This doesn't look good for Gopher Fans!

From Star Tribune:

Allen, a 6-3, 301-pound defensive tackle, recently visited Wisconsin and is scheduling visits to Notre Dame and Stanford. He will wedge in a Gophers visit. Michigan, which recently made a scholarship offer, also will be a visit.

"I feel like I've finally narrowed my list down, and I'm sort of at the beginning of the decision-making process," he said.

College coaches watching film on Allen aren't the only ones putting in the work. Allen arrived in Madison, Wis., with several questions of his own.

"I like to talk to the coaches about the depth chart, the strength program and the academics," Allen said. "And I want to see the dorms and meet the guys."

Allen said the Gophers were the first to show interest. The program made a scholarship offer after Allen's freshman season. Both of his parents, however, are Wisconsin graduates.

Dear Beau: Now and in the future, there are lots of big pluses, tangibles and intangibles, to being a home-grown, well-repected standout/leader on a rising program at a great, nationally recognized university. Think about it carefully and thoughtfully...get lots of opinion and feedback from those who have been down the GG road and reflect on what lies ahead for the M&Gold at TCFB stadium.

I'm confused (looking at this blurb alone) where the bad news is. He doesn't indicate any preferences at all. The loaded statements ("Both of his parents, however, are Wisconsin graduates" and "He will wedge in a Gophers visit") are both made by the author, not Allen. Not being a recruitnik means I could be missing how this post fits into the larger landscape of his recruitment. But looking at this one article, I don't see where the concern is supposed to be.

He visited his parents alma mater, didn’t commit and he is still considering the Gophers? That actually sounds like really encouraging news.

For what it is worth, I work with someone who is close to the Mtka program. He told me that the general consensus among several teachers is that they would be surprised if Beau stays home and would likely end up at Stanford. Let's hope that they are wrong.

Go get em Brew!

I agree. To me it seems like Beau has always preferred to leave the metro, but the fact with his "pedigree" he is still considering us is a great sign.

Good Point!

I agree that it is a good sign that he has not yet signed with the Badgers, but that is not good when both of your parents graduated from Becky! Rivals has his number 1 choice as Michigan on his profile. If he was so pumped to go to Minnesota he would have visited already... maybe the Air Force game! This guy is gone! However, if we could land 4 star Richard Ash(Rivals has Minnesota as his #1) or 3 star Antonio Ford(Rivals has Minnesota as his #1) we would be better off. They are both ranked ahead of Allen on the DT big board. I hope Allen comes here because it is always good to keep your in state talent but we might still be in good shape without him. Brandon Kirksey has been a beast this year!

What is either bad, or even new, about this article?

Where does Rivals even have a #1 ranking? Are you talking about the images at the top, because they rotate randomly.

I can promise you, we are not #1 for Antonio Ford. We have a better chance with Beau than with Ford. I am optimistic about Ash though.

Most TC area athletes aren't going to take an official visit because it's a waste of money. Take the free trip out to California and spend the 30 bucks in gas to visit the Gophers on your own time. Can't blame him at all for that.

Does anyone know what he intends to study in college? Stanford is a pretty great school and I hope whatever his major is Minnesota is at least competitive in that arena.

Beau has already taken two unofficial visits to Minnesota for games (including the Air Force game). The author was only referencing official visits.

Also, your interpretation of the way Rivals lists schools on a player's profile isn't accurate. Rivals categorizes interest level (High, Medium, Low) and then lists BCS schools that are at the same interest level in alphabetical order followed by non-BCS schools. For Antonio Ford that means Minnesota, Oklahoma State, Purdue, Vanderbilt, and Wake Forest appear in alphabetical order.

Beau still plans to take an official visit to Minnesota.

Seems like a bunch of non-news. Unless Beau just found out his parents are Wiscy alumni.

I'm hoping for a moment of clarity, where he fully realizes, through the constant buzz of the recruiting process, that his parent ultimately decided to live in Minnesota for a reason.
