Lansing State Journal preview of Gopher-Sparty game

Thanks for posting the article, SS. What can you say after the team that handed you an embarrassing loss then goes down by 20 points to the team you're scheduled to play next...

The Big Ten is nutzo this year. To wit:

Illinois beats Ohio State, but can't beat Penn State.

Indiana beats Ohio State (not to mention Kentucky), but can't beat the Gophers in Bloomington or Nebraska in Lincoln.

Iowa wins at Wisconsin and Minnesota, but gets swept by Purdue.

Michigan beats Michigan State and Wisconsin at home but can't win at Iowa.

MSU wins at the Kohl Center but can't beat Northwestern in Evanston.

The Gophers falls to B1G middle/low-dwellers Iowa and Purdue at home, then go on the road and win at IU.

Nebraska gets throttled at home by Wisconsin & Sparty, but later takes down the Hoosiers in Lincoln.

Northwestern out-toughs Sparty, then about a week later gets manhandled by the Gophers.

OSU throttles everyone in Columbus, but suffers a head-scratching loss to Illinois (Brandon Paul).

Penn State shows the chops to beat Purdue and Illinois in Happy Valley but can't do the same to the Gophers.

Purdue looks like world-beaters vs. the Gophers, then all of a sudden can't win at home (losses to Wisconsin & Michigan), where it never loses.

Wisconsin can't beat Iowa at home, but responds by beating Purdue and Illinois on the road.

Strange days, indeed.

Lip service by MSU and the media. No names mentioned other than Mbakwe means they are not that concerned about Gophers

They will have plenty of time to learn the other names as they read the backs of our jerseys on the fast breaks. I'm glad they had a chance to smack Purdue around after their back to back losses, so they won't be coming out like a team angry about coming off back to back losses, and I think they overlook us and our boys come out hungry, confident, and full of fire. I wouldn't want to miss this game.

With Izzo's track record, I highly doubt he or his players are taking the Gophers lightly. Plus, he respects the h*ll out of Tubby Smith. His program didn't get where it is by taking teams lightly. Respectfully, what are they supposed to say? Green and Thornton were both candid and basically said the Gophers have reinvented themselves (which is true) since Mbakwe went down. I see that as a compliment.

Some more Izzo, regarding the Izzone member who taunted Robbie Hummel and the Branden Dawson/Matt Painter incident.

All that said, let's go win at Breslin for the first time since the Final Four season.

Big deal. What's important is that folks who obviously have more basketball knowledge like Jamalo and minngg don't.

Agreed - Izzo is tops at this. I meant that he needed to make a statement considering we killed the team that embarrassed them.
