Lane Kiffin or Brewster?

After Mason was fired, I was hoping we would sign Lane Kiffin rather than Brewster. Kiffin is an amazing recruiter (Tenn has 22 4 and 5 star recruits in 09 and 10), has local roots, has NFL head coaching experience and is much younger. If Brew goes, can we lure Kiffin back (assuming we don't have a better option like Dungy)?

He's doing a fantastic job at Tennessee & I don't see him leaving there anytime soon.......

Lane also has dad making sure he doesn't fail and that becomes a big package.

I was also on the Lane bandwaggon the first time around but seeing some of the stuff he's done at Tenn. Lane is also a pretty classless guy, not sure I'd want him as the face of The U's football program. That being said, this won't happen his ship has sailed.

I agree. I'm not sure what fans want if they want Lane Kiffin as the head coach now. Really? Lane Kiffin? After all the stunts he's pulled down there and the numerous times he's already been caught for cheating? I'm shocked by this after people were complaining about how terrible the program looks with a player or two being arrested, yet we want to go after a guy who's already looked down upon by some of the top SEC coaches.

The press would have already run Kiffin out of town if he pulled those early shenanigans here. No where else does the local media rejoice in bringing down a college sports program. (I know there are some good media guys, but they do seem to get drowned out by the negative ones).

Half the people on this board cry because Brewster doesn't seem to be good enough X's and O's-wise for them...if so, then Kiffin sure ain't the guy either...did you see him purposely wear the clock down from 47 seconds left to sit on the 27 yard line and force his poor kicker to kick a 44-yarder to win? The guy had already missed short from 47 and had one blocked from 43...you'd think you'd at least take the opportunity to see if a couple runs up the middle could net you about 5 yards closer. Kiffin's ultra-conservatism blew it for his team yesterday, who fought hard to nearly beat Alabama.

How many times have we been through this?

Lane Kiffin had a goatee.

End of story.

This is where Maturi really messed up. I still think Brewster could be a good coach and we need to give him his opportunity for at least another year. But Maturi had a chance to bring a "hot young coach" to Minnesota, a coach who was well-known as a great recruiter and offensive mind, not to mention a local guy.

he's also recruiting to rocky top. he would have left as soon as a bigger better job opened up.

Let's not forget that the program he took over is Tennessee. You're much more likely to pull in recruits of that calibur when you are working at an upper tier SEC school.

Kiffin's class doesn't seem like anything out of the ordinary for Tennessee.

Tennessee almost beat the #1 & #2 teams in the country this season.......

Kiffin looked like a neophyte early on with the way he handled things, but he's calming down generally and seems to have things moving in a positive direction there. As much as I liked him as a candidate I don't know if he would have been a fit here long term anyways, and regardless that decision was made. It's over and done with.

What a bunch of Booger Eaters you are

I hope you are kidding with the Lane Kiffin talk. Do you have any idea how much they are paying him and his staff? Would never happen in Minnesota, ever. I live in TN and they can recruit no matter who their coach is: A=it's Tennessee, B=do a little homework and look into their recruiting budget.

The announcers on Saturday put it out there on several occasions, the schemes were GOOD, the players executing it were out eating tacos.

If I may, can we change directions here, and talk about how things would be different if Holtz wouldn't have left for Notre Dame?

If Holtz hadn't bolted, I think its a pretty safe bet we would have made it to Pasadena by 1990. At a minimum we'd have been in a Jan 1 bowl. Its an even safer bet that by 1992 the NCAA would have dropped da bomb on us for the shenanigans Holtz would have pulled (and actually was pulling; anyone remember Luther Darville) to get us there. I'm talking penalties that would have made the Clem Haskins mess look like a minor violation involving picking up a recruit at the airport. One could argue we'd be in worse shape now because of it. And I think we'd be less likely to now have an on-campus stadium, given Lou Hoax's professed love for the dome.
