Lamonte Edwards at Southern Illinois

This kid came from my alma mater highschool. Everyone in Woodbury had really high hopes for this kid. 15 tackles in 12 games at Southern Illinois was not those hopes. Maybe it can just be attributed to getting acclimated to a new school/football program.

Agreed. I really hope he has an excellent senior year.

A four star bust...impossible, four stars means you are guaranteed success.

I thought he was the real deal at MN. Thought he could have been pick of the litter.

If I recall correctly, Coach Kill helped pave the way for Edwards at SIU. Another example of Kill going the extra mile to take care of his athletes even when some of them have violated Kill's rules and expectations.

Thomas Hammock told me at the Signing Day Social after his redshirt freshman year that Edwards was the best RB is practice and would shine the following year. Called him a beast. I can't remember when he ended up being moved to LB but either Hammock was blowing smoke up my butt or Edwards plateaued at the age of 19. Might be a combo of both because I believe Hammock already knew at that moment he was leaving for Communist Red and mucked up the crowd anyways

I was told the same thing by one of the line coaches at the time. I had high hopes for LE. Bummer.

Well, what competition was there that year at RB honestly?

saw him in high school get caught from behind on a breakaway.. didn't have a 2nd gear.
so the only thing to do with RB's like that is switch them to LB.. doesn't always workout.

I think that the fact that Edwards stole from a teammate, and then had his coach find him a place to land is a great thing in itself. The fact that this kid didn't get a mark on his criminal record saved his future.

$1M talent. $1 decision.

Part of life. Learn and learn some more. If Lamonte ends up in the pros this is a save. If Lamonte doesn't end up in the pros and keeps his nose clean the rest of his life, it's a save.

I hope he can keep his hands out of the cookie jar- he had many chances here but couldn't stay out of trouble!

$1M talent? Not a lot of guys in the NFL at LB who had 15 tackles their junior year. At Southern Illinois no less.

Lamonte was a very good LB in HS as well. Not sure what game you saw but he was very fast. Hindsight is 20/20 - but most everyone was excited when he chose the U. I wish him all the best.
