Yeah, I don't know how you can give a contract like that to somebody you can't trust to do the work without putting it in his contract. Reminds me of the weight clauses that you used to see in MLB contracts. If a guy isn't motivated enough by being major leaguer to stay in shape, he is likely going to slack in other areas, too.

Yep, if you're contemplating a clause like that in a massive contract, you should probably scrap the whole thing.
 

Apparently video games and the internet are more worthy of his time.

Instead of playing games all day when he's not practicing or playing, now he can only play games for part of the day. 😪
 

Murray has work to do to get better, but he far from 'sucks'. He has improved as a passer every season despite playing through injury and without his #1 WR for half of last season. The Cardinals were 8-2 when Hopkins played, and 3-5 without him.

He also does things with his legs that no other QB in the league can do. He's a top 10 QB and is only heading into his 4th season.

As a Cards fan, this whole thing has created cause for concern since the beginning. I would have probably waited for more of a body of work before signing him to this deal. Just too many rumblings out of the locker room about him having maturity and leadership issues, his body language on the field when things go south is horrendous.

I don't see this ending well for the Cardinals but I'm hoping for the best. He's an electric player to watch. The teams that have managed to rush but keep him in the pocket (I forget the term, something like "bum rush"?) have made him look woefully lacking.

D Hopkins missing the first 6 games to suspension isn't going to help them in getting off to a hot start. Murray and the Cards have limped and staggered down the stretch in Nov/Dec the last 2 years.
 

Has all the talent in the world, and when things are going right is fun to watch. Watching him pout, yell at players and look dejected when things aren't going well is less fun to watch. Giving gobs of money to a dude that seemingly has motivation and maturity issues isn't going to help the situation. I'm glad I'm not the Cards, as I don't know what you do. With all you have invested in him, and knowing how hard it is to find a QB, you can't just let him walk as a FA. Knowing the trade value of QB's, I suppose you could get a king's ransom, and just hope you strike on your next QB?

He definitely has maturity issues, but you can say that about a lot of 24 year olds. 'Knowing how hard it is to find a QB' is exactly why you keep him. The Vikings have been looking for a franchise QB since Tarkington retired. The Cardinals haven't fared any better until Murray. He's too young and too talented to give up on this early, especially when he has continued to improve. He's not like Baker Mayfield or Jared Goff, who have regressed.
 

The talent is there. He made great strides throwing the ball last year. Was 2nd in completion percentage and 4th in yards per attempt.
