per KSTP:

Six months after stepping off the field for health reasons, former Gopher football coach Jerry Kill says he feels as good as he has in 12 years.

The visibly-thinner Kill spoke Tuesday at the Higher Health Symposium hosted by Northwestern Health Sciences University in Bloomington, which focused on helping employers improve health care for their employees while lowering health care costs.

“I’m taking care of myself, I’m eating right and sleeping better and doing all the things I should have been doing a long time ago,” Kill said. “The more I can live a balanced life and have my life in order, the less issues I’ll have.”

Go Gophers!!

It's funny they mention it now but the before the 15 season Jerry lost a lot of weight too.

About time we got another JK update.

Strict low carb diets can help reduce seizures. Weight loss is another effect.

Jerry Kill is starting to seem like a Kardashian. I don't need updates unless they are meaningful.

I see it from both sides as he is so respected, but he was here only 5 years. I prefer keeping him involved when possible.

This kind of story doesn't bug me in relation to Kill, it is a puff piece about someone that many people are genuinely interested in. The annoying stories are the ones from the reporters who are on a crusade to get Kill hired at the U and to make it look like it is completely the U's fault that nothing got done.

Didn't we hear this exact same quote before each season/after each episode? Glad he's doing better, but not sure why this is newsworthy.

Saw and heard a lot of mentions about Kill's weight loss last year. Never looked as good as that though. Hope he's stays healthy and far away from the daily grind of a football program.

To me the part in bold is the absolute key to all of this for Kill. When he was still coaching he could go through some of the motions in regards to living a more healthy lifestyle but the reality of D1 football is that it is nearly impossible to do so. Football coaches work insane hours under a ton of pressure, when they aren't coaching they are recruiting, there really is little to no down time when they can separate themselves from the game. Even when he took his leave of absence I am sure he was still emotionally invested in the team and what was going on while he was gone.

I have a different take. I see Jerry Kill as a recovering addict. Football is his drug. he knows it's bad for his health, but he still craves it, and he's trying to learn how to live without it. I would not be surprised to see a relapse at some point - unless Rebecca really puts her foot down and says "No."
