Krier from Winpost - Gophers play it safe, get the win

Goes a little soft on the playcalling. A little dismissive of the problems in the passing game.

Maybe so, but this paragraph is spot on and helps explain why... "Streveler ran the offense deftly, picking and choosing his opportunities to tuck the ball and run like a seasoned veteran. However, it was very clear from the opening kickoff that the coaching staff was going to protect their quarterback making his first start as a Gopher when it came to throwing the ball."

I understand protecting Streveler, but completely ignoring the passing game does our receivers no favors. I was very impressed with the way Streveler ran the zone read...when he kept it, he seemed to always have huge holes on the outside to run. Really sold the fake well.

Really sold the fake well.
For whatever reason, SJSU didn't seem to defend well no matter whether Streveler kept the ball or handed off to Cobb. They were just out-manned up front. Can't imagine the difference in how our O-Line felt last night versus last week against TCU.

3-1, 26th in the NCAA in rushing, Cobb 6th. We suck.

If they choose to not stop the run, why pass? 2-3 drops. Jones had no clue the ball was even coming his way. The WR position is lacking.

If we did this to a Big Ten team, would we be complaining?

The stats are deceptive. The Gophers did what they needed to do with a fresman QB making his first start. He accomplished what was asked of him, and then some. MN played to their stregnths, won the game, and had key players healing on the sidelines for another day.
Deceptive is the 1-7 passing... Should have been 4-7 with a TD if you take away drops on catchable balls.

Dr. JeKill is hiding his laboratory playbook for the Michigan game. bounce pass.
