“I had to prove it at Morehead. I had to prove it at Central Arizona. Now it’s time to prove it at Minnesota,” Mathieu said.

“Dre has a lot of game,” said Tennessee guard Jordan McRae, an All-SEC performer last year who is teamed with Mathieu in this summer’s Rocky Top League. “He’s a pass-first point guard who’s quicker than anyone else out there. Plus, he can jump out of the gym.”

Scholarship in tow, Mathieu will soon depart for Minneapolis. He has two years of eligibility to prove himself. History shows that shouldn’t be a problem.

“There is always going to be a chip on my shoulder,” he said. “I was passed over so much. It’s just it’s time.”

Go Gophers!!

The problem is, and I quote from various posters, "He's too short, B1G will be to tough for him, needs to build muscle, academics questionable, etc, etc, etc."

Good luck to Dre as you join Dre and Austin for some quick bursts of offense that will totally entertain the crowd.

Love it, always want guys who have a chip on their shoulder and will work hard for us. Hope he can solidify some reserve guard play cause we're gonna need it with our situation in the paint.

Yea we might have to transition to a 4 guard lineup (or 3 guard SF) with Eliason in the paint at times from what it sounds like with Buggs' development and King's lack of presence.

Did not prove enough at Morehead to earn to earn a Low D1 scholly. Blossomed at the Juco level.

Gophers really need this guy to be a serviceable option at PG behind Andre. Hoping Mav gets to spend his senior year as an off-the-bench marksman, not as a ballhandling guard.

Take it for what it's worth, but I have a friend who coaches Division 1 JUCO ball out west who saw Dre Mathieu play several times this past season while he was at Central Arizona. When he committed to Minnesota he told me that the Gophers got an absolute steal and that this kid should be an impact player.

Always good to hear. Thanks!

I like what your friend says. Let's hope he's right- that would be huge.
