he just said, Wisconsin is going to blow out Minnesota. i hope he eat his words.

Well we all know it is a possibility and I won't be terribly surprised if it happens. That said, I'd love to stuff it down Sconnie's throat all day long.

Kind of like men's hockey did to UMD last night...

Did someone send him some nasty tweets after GameDay picked Stillwater?? He seemed a little salty towards Minnesota

Wisconsin will score.

It goes without saying we need to keep up. I think Kill, Claeys, Limegrover and these kids will surprise everyone on both sides of the ball to keep us in the game. That's Coach's formula for teams "better" than us. Just be competitive to the end.

Hope that unfolds today.

Go Gophers! In Kill We Trust!

I thought the whole segment was pretty much the entire crew laughing that we even had a chance. Finally Howard said something nice and they were like oh yeah Minnesota is 8-2.

We weren't supposed to beat Nebraska, Northwestern, Indiana or Penn State either.

He knows wisky is the likely victor here. He's playing the badgers up so tOSU looks better. It's politicking, nothing more.

You can tell those fools are happy to not be in single-digit temps though. Pansies.

Herbstreit has been campaigning for Wisconsin for about a month now, asking voters basically every week to pay attention to them because they're underrated and will end up 10-2. Not sure why other than that would help Ohio State.

I hope he eats his words too.

The reality is WI is one of the 10 best teams in the country if not Top 5. They would absolutely compete to win today against anyone in the game.

Minnesota has not played an opponent like this so far this year.

I hope the Gophers win too, but if you look at the teams, Wisconsin is better up and down the board. You really can't blame a non-Minnesota fan for thinking that Wisconsin will blow us out of the water.

I think there was some shot that Herbstreit took from a Gopher back in the day when they played MN. Possibly a cheap shot. Does anyone else have any recollection of this?

As Jimmy Fallon would say, "Thank you Kirk Herbstreit, for picking the Badgers to blow out Minnesota." They have played the underdog role well, and this prediction proves that they still are getting little to no respect out of most. Screw everyone else!!

How about Borland in that piece stating that minnesota "thinks they are a top big 10 team, but we know we are." I'd like to see Cobb run his a$$ over and ask him what he thinks about Minnesota now!

he also said "it will get ugly". But, I got that second hand. He could have been talking about their cheerleaders, or fans in general.

A top 5 team?? They've beaten one ranked team and that was Northwestern and we all know how the Wildcats season has turned out. With the exception of tOSU, Wisconsin hasn't played a team like the current Gophers team either.

A lot of the Badger fans would probably say Arizona State and BYU are better than we are, and maybe the statistics bear that out as well, I don't know.

Marcus Smart also picks Wisconsin.

He played for ohio...what can you expect?

Everyone knows the opponents, but just because the Soviets have come to town it doesn't mean there can't be a Miracle!!! (Time for MN and Coach Kill to conjure up the spirit of Herb Brooks!)

Have a friend who is a diehard tOSU fan. Lives in Columbus, follows all things Buckeye. He told me that Herbstreit had the audacity to pick against the Buckeyes a few times many years ago and was wrong. Since then Herbstreit is considered "Judas" by the many of the Buckeye faithful.

The voter-based national rankings just don't mean much.
These do:

When you look at the scores, the stats, and the matchups it gets even more obvious that WI could compete with the best in the game. WI kept OSU's margin of victory to one score @ OSU. Even in the SEC, very few teams could hope to do the same.

I hate to talk-up the rival. But the fact is, despite the rankngs and records similarities, this would be the Gophers biggest win in over 25 years. A huge upset.

Unfortunately, I agree. I hate Wisconsin, but they are good. Biggest upset in 25 years may be a bit overboard given we are ranked, have played well lately, and are at home... but it'd be up there.

All that is true except for the "25 Year" part, Beating #2 Penn State on the road was/will be bigger.

That win got the Gophers into the Sun Bowl, first bowl since 1986.

This win would get the Gophers to a New Year's Day Bowl, first NYD bowl since 1961/1962.

Not to mention the Gophers took a step back the following years in 2000 and 2001 which lessened the impact of that win.

This is bigger by a mile.

I attended that 6 November 1999 game in Happy Valley. It was a huge road victory. But implications for our team were not as lofty. We were 5-3 overall (2-3 Big Ten) coming into Happy Valley. It was a defining moment and a turning point for Golden Gopher football under Glen Mason. This time is different. We are 8-2 overall (4-2 Big Ten) going into our own TCF Bank Stadium which Glen Mason built. We are also ranked in the USA Today / Coaches Poll. The implications of a victory today are much more compelling than a victory on 6 November 1999, as good as it felt and as happy as it made me that day. Today we have a chance to go somewhere with the Golden Gopher football program in a way that has eluded every Golden Gopher coach since Murray Warmath. The 6 November 1999 game at Beaver Stadium paved the way to the Sun Bowl and an 8-4 overall (5-3 Big Ten) record and helped pave the way to the return of on campus football for Minnesota. We have a chance to surpass that today, if all the cards break our way. When was the last time we had a chance to move up to 9-2 overall (5-2 Big Ten)? It has been a while, 2003. If successful, this time we do it with a home field advantage, something no coach since Cal Stoll has had the opportunity to enjoy. The exception being Tim Brewster, but we know how that played out.
