Kirk Herbstreit’s son commits to Michigan, OSU message boards blowing up

That's one of the fallouts from Michigan beating OSU 4 times in a row.....remember back when Herbie Sr. was being recruited, the Gophers landed Scott Schaffner out of Ohio that year who supposedly was the best QB in Ohio.

Would it kill Michigan’s marketing team to hire a graphic designer or artist? These AI graphics that they keep pumping out are such an eyesore. Saw one earlier that they posted where Ohio State’s logo said OHO STATE on it. One of the wealthiest programs in college football with millions to spare on NIL and recruiting, but somehow not enough spare change to bankroll an artist or two.

Not sure how I would have dealt with any of my kids wanting to go to Wisconsin but appears Herby is taking the high road I guess :)

Kind of an odd commitment, he is a low 3 star prospect who doesn't even have a composite ranking. Kind of feels like they are just trolling Ohio State for fun with this one.

Didn't the Herbstreit family have to move away from Columbus and pull away from the OSU program largely because of obsessive internet "fans" harassing them?

I get why he wouldn't want to go to Ohio State to avoid the circus. Choosing Michigan and in the same class as the #1 QB recruit is the strange part. That choice also invites a circus and might speak of even more bad blood between the family and OSU than any of us know of.

There's dozens of other FBS schools he could have chosen with a better shot at playing and less drama. He'll probably transfer to one, eventually.

Looking at his 24/7 page, there isn't much going on. Bolded is my take as well. Was he given an offer just as a way to "stick it to" OSU? Then if you're the kid, your choices are go the FCS route, or take their offer and go get a really good education for free at Michigan while you warm the bench? Not a terrible choice, IMO.

I mean he’s never going to play. Seems like a weird waste of a scholarship from Michigan for a troll move but then again that kind of seems like where things Are moving under Moore in that the OSU rivalry is his main focus

You need 4-5 QBs on your roster so he can come in and run the scout team or whatever. In the past you wouldn't have spent a scholarship this way but with the new 105 roster limit things like this might become a little more common.....maybe....who knows....:)

I don’t really foresee him being the backup there is what I mean. Michigans already got a slew of 4th-5th string caliber QBs 😅

He is a walk-on. No wasted scholly

Sure but he still takes up one of their 105 roster spots even if he isn't on scholarship.
My comment was in regards to this part of the post: “Seems like a weird waste of a scholarship from Michigan for a troll move”.

I was simply stating that it is not a wasted scholarship.

My kids always knew they were free to go to Wisconsin....as long as they paid for it on their own.

He has the correct father.

This is 100% the only reason he is a wolverine.

ah i see. did not see it denoted that he was a walk on anywhere in the article but did not look that closely nor watch the presser. I amend my comment to such

I mean he’s never going to play. Seems like a weird waste of a roster slot and a ton of money from Michigan for a troll move but then again that kind of seems like where things Are moving under Moore in that the OSU rivalry is his main focus

As a walk-on? His father is the only reason why any of us know about this commitment. Most programs would take him or player of his caliber as a walk-on. If you look at the players around him in ranking, they're all MAC scholarship players.
