Kip Smith has a big leg

I'm more surprised that a coach knew his rule book

In my years of refing football you would be surprised how few coaches know the rulebook. It is an increadable distance. Where in Colorado is Broomfield? light air or on the plains?

D1 leg

That is 3 yards short of the HS kickoff line. It is equal to your Friday night kicker putting the kickoff through the upright. Impressive to kick that high, far, and accurate.

Broomfield is a suburb of Denver I believe.

It is a northern suburb...I would compare it to a Blaine, maybe.

Blaine is a good comparison...It's a suburb but it's a little ways out of Denver. Really nice city, my wife's cousin lives there and really likes it.

He doesn't care what the town is like but its altitude.

so it would be close to a mile high...

Still an hellava kick. I have once seen a kickoff go through a goalpost, and that was in pre-game warm ups. To do it in that situation brings to mind Chip Lomiller against Iowa. I have been to Denver and particularlly Littleton and liked that area, just didn't remember Broomfield. Thanks for the info.
I finally had some time and got this off of Wikipedia....so take that for what it's worth.....
Elevation 5,344 ft (1,629 m) and in comparison...There are 5,280 feet in a mile.

You saw a kick go through a goal post? That kid must've had one hell of a leg!

Are you sure the ball wasn't fired from a cannon?

Rhys Lloyd

In my junior college days I was up in Brainerd, MN watching Central Lakes play Rochester Community & Technical College. Some of my friends played for CLC, while I attended RCTC. It was a pretty windy day and Rhys Lloyd was kicking off through the uprights. Unbelievable. If this guy has even close to Lloyd's caliber of leg, which it seems, I am excited to see him kick for 4 years at the U!

Naw....no cannon, just a fluke.

The kid just got all of it. Of course when it counted he was lucky to reach the ten.

Like that game a few years back when some one had a eighty yard punt, you don't expect it, you sure can't predict it, but it was fun to see.

In high school, we lost a game 3-0 on a free kick with about 30 seconds left. It sucked.
