I was watching the pregame last night and they did a segment from Glendale and discussed the Auburn vs. Oregon matchup, specificlly the "quick strike" ability of each offense. Oregon and Auburn ranked #1 and #2 in the country in offensive touchdown drives that took 3 plays or less. They had 23 and 20 of those drives.

Who came in at tied for second? NORTHERN ILLINOIS!

Coach Kill's squad had 20 TD drives of 3 plays or under this year. I thought that was rather interesting and gets me a tad bit excited for what Kill and his staff could bring to the Gophers.

Stroke the post!

Isn't that tied for 2nd?

Two against the Gophers. They had TD drives of 3, 3, 5, and 6 plays against us.

I don't think Kill's offense will have nearly as many "quick strike" drives at MN. That type of drive usually requires a real dynamic player in regards to the competition or a real talent mismatch. I don't think that the gophers will have those any time soon in conference play. More likely we will see good sustained drives consisting of well executed plays gaining 4-10 yards per pop, hopefully.

I'll take any quick strike scores we can get.

Geez Silvio, thanks for bringing the wet blanket.

Of course I would not expect that to happen at Minnesota next year. That was not the point of the post. I found it surprising that Kill's squad was T2 in the nation in this category and may show that he had some decent athletes to work with at NIU. I mean, unfortunately we witnessed it first hand.

Unfortunately we did, but it also signals to me that he understands how to get the ball into the hands of his playermakers. Something the former coach didn't.

Watching Stanford the other night was what I think Kill will look to do. Three tight ends, moving them all over the place pre-snap and then running power football. With Gray keeping the D honest, we could have quick strike capabilities.

Obviously dynamic players help, but I think it's more haivng the ability of the coach to identify where to strike and when. And obviously his ability to get the most out of the talent he has. Sounds like that's Kill's dealio and bread and butter.

Hopefully our offense won't be "Offensive". It would be great if it were "Quick" but didn't "Strike" out on its scoring opportunities. If it can manage that, we will "Kill" the competition.

This has been your Wahoo McDaniel Joke of the Day.

He runs a great offense to attack with. Diversity in formation allows you to attack the defense where you have the best matchups.
