Apparently it's going well, according to Doogie:

Blaine's Nelson & T-Grace's Ferguson among HS coaches who met w/ Kill today. Kill heading back to Ill. Wed. Hopes to have staff done by Sun.

Ferguson: "He's someone you'd want your son to play for."

9 HS coaches, including Benilde Fr. coach Randy Shaver met w/ Kill. Simley coach Claud Allaire: "It's apparent that he can lead people."

The fact that Randy Shaver is a Benilde Fr coach speaks to the conflict of interest problem he has reporting on HS football.
Ever notice BSM is always on video highlights? Yup, everyone cares about a non-power private school and wants to see highlights of them every week.

What a piece of work.

This has been my rant of the day.

Claude Allaire isn't at Simley anymore either.

I think it's just nice not discussing the 100 names out there who should be the next football coach and talking some actual football. As of now, we can start moving forward again!

I played on a 9-man team in high school. A visit from a Gophers coach back then would have been amazing. Great way to build up good will even if some of these schools are unlikely to produce a D-I player. But if you get players who grow up dreaming about the Gophers, they might work hard enough to be able to make the team.

They also might follow the team and buy tickets someday. This is part of what we're missing.

Claud Allaire is where now? Anyway, here is what Allaire emailed me: "Nine high school coaches met with coach Kill today. I had a chance to visit with others who were in attendance afterwards and we are all equally impressed... He has a vision that fits Minnesota, he is values driven, a teacher of football first, and its apparent that he knows how to engage and lead people. We are very excited about having him lead the Gophers program."

I sent out a Tweet correcting the Shaver note a few min. later. Shaver was NOT in on the meeting. I was not there, so should've been careful providing all details without first-hand knowledge.

Thanks, Doogie. That's good info.

Any idea what these guys thought of Brew? I suspect we was a little too bombastic for coaches in outstate MN. Hell, prolly for TC guys, too, given his use of the helicopter.... :)

Claud Allaire: just stepped down at Simley... he is on the Executive Committee of the Minnesota Football Coaches Association... thus, his presence makes sense.

Frothy: they liked him initially... but that changed quickly.

And Nelson has been the head coach at Minnetonka, not Blaine, for about six years. His son is a GA with the Gophers. I think Shannon Garrity is at Blaine.

Correct. Well aware. Had a minor brain-fart. Made the correction via Twitter about 30 sec. after.

I wasn't complaining Shaver was there, I was complaining that Shaver always shows BSM highlights. No one cares (except his kids)

Nice to hear that he's making the coaches happy. Was Brewster popular among the states HS coaches? I remember Mason wasn't, but I don't remember hearing much about Brewster.

I thought Brewster did a pretty good job of building good relationships with the coaches. He said a lot of the same things Kill has said so far.

I know a few coaches so I can only speak for them. Others on here know some other coaches, so if you have heard differently, feel free to correct me.

What I heard was this:

Brewster really did put an honest effort into establishing good relationships with MN coaches. It is not a coincidence that we nabbed early offers from big time local kids who never even looked elsewhere (Gjere, Olsons, kid in Fergus Falls who couldn't get his grades) and also were able to nab MN kids with real quality offers (Edwards, Hageman, Alipate). Before Brew, we weren't keep the MN kids at this rate. Part of that reason is that the Brew Staff really made a big effort to establish good relationships. I know the Cretin coaches appreciated some aspects of Brew. He went hard after Shady Saloman (who had some good offers elsewhere), offerred Mottla a preferred walk on (earned a scholorship) and generally took some notice of what they had to say about certain players. They offerred Marcus Binns a preferred walk on as well.
This is evident in the fact that Michael Floyd and Seantrel Henderson did really consider us. We weren't Henderson's top 3, but we were in consideration. With Floyd, he was always going to Notre Dame, but he kept MN as a final 4 out of respect for Brew. Now, all of this seems little and it probably is. But kids are sort of respected for doing this because it helps out recruiting in other stages (supposedly you can talk to Donnell Kirkwood and say, "hey, we are in Seantrel Henderson's top 3, think about running behind that monster"). It's little and it probably didn't make a huge difference, but it is a sign of sort of mutual respect.

However, I think most of the MN coaches also realized that Brew was in over his head.

Kill should be able to keep the level of MN kids and improve upon it by simply putting in the effort with the MN coaches. They are a group that would love for their kids to end up at the U at a higher rate.
