I know a few coaches so I can only speak for them. Others on here know some other coaches, so if you have heard differently, feel free to correct me.
What I heard was this:
Brewster really did put an honest effort into establishing good relationships with MN coaches. It is not a coincidence that we nabbed early offers from big time local kids who never even looked elsewhere (Gjere, Olsons, kid in Fergus Falls who couldn't get his grades) and also were able to nab MN kids with real quality offers (Edwards, Hageman, Alipate). Before Brew, we weren't keep the MN kids at this rate. Part of that reason is that the Brew Staff really made a big effort to establish good relationships. I know the Cretin coaches appreciated some aspects of Brew. He went hard after Shady Saloman (who had some good offers elsewhere), offerred Mottla a preferred walk on (earned a scholorship) and generally took some notice of what they had to say about certain players. They offerred Marcus Binns a preferred walk on as well.
This is evident in the fact that Michael Floyd and Seantrel Henderson did really consider us. We weren't Henderson's top 3, but we were in consideration. With Floyd, he was always going to Notre Dame, but he kept MN as a final 4 out of respect for Brew. Now, all of this seems little and it probably is. But kids are sort of respected for doing this because it helps out recruiting in other stages (supposedly you can talk to Donnell Kirkwood and say, "hey, we are in Seantrel Henderson's top 3, think about running behind that monster"). It's little and it probably didn't make a huge difference, but it is a sign of sort of mutual respect.
However, I think most of the MN coaches also realized that Brew was in over his head.
Kill should be able to keep the level of MN kids and improve upon it by simply putting in the effort with the MN coaches. They are a group that would love for their kids to end up at the U at a higher rate.
