Kill Hire Speaks Volumes About State Of Program...

If Jerry Kill was the best that we could do, we're in worse shape than I originally thought... and that's saying a lot, as I wasn't too high on the state of the program.

I am not thrilled by his name, but I am thrilled about his record and hopes he has continued success here. Can't really write him off just yet. As everyone likes to point out, tOSU hired a DII coach and he seemed to have turned out okay.

While disappointed we didn't take Leach, I think Kill will work out just fine.

Kill can coach. He knows what he's doing and he will take the talent that we have and make it/use it better. As fans, we really need to hope that he can take next year's team to wins that nobody thought they could get. I think he can turn things around here, but i don't think he can do it quickly UNLESS he has a good season next year. He's got a lot of returning players to work with and if he's the coach we hope he is, he might be able to take the team to a place Brewster never could.

It's going to be hard to sell recruits on Kill or the U of M if we put together a 4 win season next year. Kill's name means nothing to them without the wins to back it up.

If that is true, this guy might have the passion of Brewster but with the actual football knowledge to win games. Sounds like a solid hire to me.

He wants to be here, apparently very few people did, and it is time to support Kill 110% and I hope that he delivers some wins!

i really hope you're right. i'll certainly get behind him & will continue to support the team, as always.... but that does NOT mean that we don't have the right to express disappointment by this hire, especially with a guy like leach practically begging to come here.

last night, i was going back & forth on whether i'd rather have edsall or peterson. to go from those high hopes to this reality is just a huge bummer.

If a coach with a record as god-awful as Horton's could win games here, there is no doubt in my mind that Kill can have a lot of success here. We currently have good players (highly rated at least) get them a coach who can get the most out of everyone and that equals wins which equals better recruits which equals more wins and well, you get the picture!

I am on board with you Jacki. I do not understand all the pessimism. Is Kill a sexy hire? No. Does the guy know fb? Yes. Anyone who does not see this is willfully blind and just hates Maturi and does not want to accept that this might not be the worst hire ever. Also, people have to understand that no big name coach is going to come here based on the current state of the program no matter how much "selling" the AD does.

I am not even trying to be a jerk at all about this whole thing. But people need to step back and look at the big picture and get a sense of reality. This program cannot lure the likes of mullen, hoke or Golden in it's state right now. They have justified themselves with their success to be able to land something much bigger in their careers right now.

Just because Maturi said he was going to make a "huge" hire or whatever doesn't mean anything. He definitely tried, but it just didn't work. The program is in a bad state right now. Kill is the perfect man to get this thing going again. He is the kind of coach who can coach you up. That is what we need very badly right now.
