which was turn the program around. We've gone from terrible to a good team in year #3. We are not only competing and earning respect, we're winning Big Ten games. 4 in a row, for the first time in 40 years!

Don't get me wrong, I want to see him take us to greater heights than this. I'm now greedy, and want to see us get the axe and win at MSU. But at the end of the day, we've arrived at where we wanted to be just a few years back. Even if we finish the year 0-3, it's been a great year and the turnaround has happened.

Awesome job by Coach Kill and the entire staff...

I'll be damned...a compliment from John Galt. Thank you John.

You must have me confused with someone else ;)

We are having a memorable season. A great season so far. The program is in the process of turning around. However, the job isn't done. Until what we are seeing this year is sustained for a period of time and built upon, the job can't be put in the category of accomplished.

Completely agree. And let's face it, the schedule for the next two years is daunting on the surface. Kill and staff are getting this done with a degree of talent (hopefully more coming in) but mainly with a lot of great coaching, chemistry, and a bit of good fortune. In my opinion we are nowhere near the point where this program can stand on its own or survive another coaching turnover. Sconnie, unfortunately, seems to have reached that point. I can't wait to see what this staff can produce in 3-5 more years.

I think what you're talking about is exellence. Hopefully Kill gets us there as well.

3 years ago, we were on par with the Dakotas and were nervous anytime we played a good team. Right now, we are not only competing with good teams, we're beating them.

Alright, time to fire him and go back where were comfortable...;)

if Jerry can break through our 9 win ceiling and get us to 11-12 wins like Iowa and Wiscy done then i will say Jerry has offically turned the program around, i think he is on pace to do so with how young are team is right now and how many starters we will return

It's been a pleasant surprise as I admit I thought the team would go 1-7 in conference. Still the notion that the turnaround is complete and Kill has accomplished what he was hired to do is total nonsense.

I disagree. The schedule is very favorable for the foreseeable future with the fall of the Big 10.

As Jags said, the schedule becomes favorable in 2016. It is not favorable the next two years.

Agree - never expected this level of success in three years. It's almost hard to handle after all the years of wandering in the wilderness.

I would still say 2014 and 2015 are pretty easy compared to recent years. Ohio State & Wisconsin are the only scary teams on the schedule. Michigan, Nebraska, Illinois, Purdue, Northwestern are all going to be pretty down.

2016 and beyond are much more favorable, but I still think that the next two years are set up such that we can make some more noise in the West. We may not win it, but I think we can finish second or 3rd both years.

This is the most fun I've had watching GopherFootball in quite a few years.

I agree with John: I don't believe John is saying the job is done. However, Jerry Kill has done what he was hired to do. He has turned the program around for all to see. Sustaining this level and reaching greater heights is now the new challenge but Jerry Kill has raised the level of the program. Number 25 in the country is validation or proof. The majority of people on here could not see the progress just five weeks ago. Some may still not agree but it is not arguable that the USA Today poll says that the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers are a Top 25 team in all of college football!

I love the fact we're winning and I really like how we are winning. We've done better than I thought we would this year (I thought around .500 and a lower-tier bowl), but I think Kill can get us to a level where we are in a similar situation every year and at that point I'll believe the program has been turned around.

That will likely depend on recruiting and it appears Kill is making some headway in landing some bigger fish.

John Galt, Thread Title: " Kill has accomplished what we hired him to do... "

I agree with your OP.

I tend to look at it this way John Galt. We are on the way, but not there yet, as the better things go the higher our expectations get. Pre-season poll on predicting the season record, I optimistically voted 8-4, and am amazed by what is happening. So, if you don't mind, I would like to rename the title of your thread as "Coach Kill is accomplishing what we hired him to do.

Just ask the last four teams how favorable it was to have the Gophers on their schedule this year. We have no idea who the coaches of these teams are going to be in the future. Brick by brick and enjoy the ride.

Let's enjoy this year as next year no one know how it will play out with recruiting and injuries. I think we can get 10 wins this year and New Year's Day bowl game ! I like the bye week to get everyone healthy ( Nelson, Engel, Bak, Wells) get everyone healthy for the last two games to make a run at the title!

We'll know by the end of this recruiting year and next years season whether it's turned around. Not before around this time next year. The signs seem positive but still a lot of work to do.
