I'm wondering if others noticed that Coach Kill hasn't seemed like himself lately. He hasn't smiled nearly as much, hasn't had the same personality. He also had several cuts on his head recently. I've been worried about him for several weeks. But when he made it through the two games in sweltering heat, I figured he was doing well. Maybe those two games took more of a toll on him than we realized. I wish him the best and am hoping he can coach the Golden Gophers for many more years

Yeah, I wondered if those cuts on his head were from a seizure.
The U can say that this is routine and everyone knows what to do. But to just issue a statement saying there's no reason to question this further is naive. Woody seems naive about the media in this town in general. NC fiasco and BB coaching search case in point. Get a clue.

Jerry Kill has seizures. There's a plan in place if/when it does happen. It went into effect today. There really are no good questions that haven't already been asked. We don't need to have a damn press conference because of a seizure. If Jerry is performing his duties well, and the team is meeting the expectations of the administration/fans, then we deal with it. If the team fails to meet expectations, eventually you find a new coach.

"Coach Kill suffered a seizure at the end of the first half of today’s game against Western Illinois. He was attended to by medical personnel on the field and was then driven to a local hospital as a precaution to ensure proper medication levels. He is resting comfortably. Coach Kill’s staff, which is the most tenured in the nation, and his team are well acquainted with his condition and are prepared if a situation like this arises. Coach Kill’s epilepsy has been documented by both local and national media and our fans are aware that situations like this can happen."

Exactly. And this is why a loyal/veteran coaching staff is so important in the game of football. They know exactly how to handle the situation because they have been in this position before. Get well soon Coach Kill.
It may be true that no new information would come out. But it's naive and arrogant to simply issue a statement and expect the media to just take that as the end of it. This isn't China. Coaches don't get carted off of the field at major sporting events often. People will expect you to answer questions, even if they already know the answers.
If they already know the answers, then why ask the god damned questions?
It's their job. If they didn't ask questions they weren't getting new answers too, most post-game press conferences could be cancelled.

They want a sound bite. Post an audio/video file with Norwood Teague reading the press release. There could also be legal issues with answering too many questions, so they may be trying to avoid that and just let Jerry address it when he is ready. I'm not opposed to a press conference, I just disagree with the media thinking it should be obligatory.

Yes this staff has been together a long time and has a plan in place for when it does happen. All of that is great and keeps it from being a massive in game distraction. But none of that changes the fact that yet again the team is forced to operate without the head coach for a significant portion of the game.
I commend Coach Kill for not letting his condition hold him back but even he has admitted that not being there during the game is a big deal.

Regardless if Coach Kill's medical condition is known this is the 3rd year in a row he has missed half a game because of it. I would say what the Coach and the University want to treat as a non-issue has become an issue. A press conference is obligatory.
Sure but I don't care about beating a dead horse. I want to them talking about the offensive line and the tame play calling. At least to me that is more important than talking about Jerry Kill's health situation.

I don't care if they hold a press conference, but I agree with this. It's an almost unprecedented situation, and I'm not sure what the best course of action is.

Sure he's disappointed that he had to miss time. He understands that. But guess what? It's epilepsy, it's part of the program. It doesn't care if you are in a truck, on a football field, or lounging on your couch. As long as the results on-field and in-classroom are good, there's NO. And I mean ZERO. Reason to relieve the HC of his duties.
