Hobbled Leidner < Healthy Streveler

I wonder if they'll run any read option if Leidner starts. It seemed to really be working well last week opening things up for Cobb and whoever is at QB.

While I am sure the read option will certainly be in the gameplan for Michigan I don't think for one second it will be nearly as unstoppable as it was against SJSU. Somehow I doubt their coaching staff will let them get burned by the same play over and over again without making adjustments.

Read option didn't seem to be in the game plan at TCU.

SJSU defensive coordinator does not have a lesser pedigree than BIG 10 coaches. Greg Robinson spent 10 years as a defensive coordinator in the NFL, including six seasons with the Broncos in which they won back-to-back Super Bowls. He also was a defensive coordinator for the New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs.

When we run our offense we move the ball. When we attempt drop back passes down the field or roll out right and make long throws left it's pretty ugly. When we attempt to make possession receivers out of 160
pound guys they lose the battle. What plays we run and who we utilize is a bigger factor to me than who we run them against. We have proven some plays will not work for our personnel versus inferior opponents. We haven't tried many plays we all think we are saving to utilize our personnel. Gosh I hope we look good Saturday.

The read option worked so well BECAUSE CS5 was running it. Not sure he can pass yet, but he is very good at his reads. If ML7 is QB I would be surprised to see much read option being called.

They ran a ton or read option with Leidner last year. I can only assume they were holding it back this year to save some hits on him. He ran all over SJSU last year.

I completely agree with this statement, but I just don't know if it was because of the competition or that the plays themselves were really that unstoppable. I don't know enough 'offensive coordinating' to know the difference, but I would expect Michigan's LBs/secondary to be faster than SJSU and maybe not allow Streveler to get the corner quite so easily.

Very true. CS5 makes the right reads, but success won't be the same vs MI.

Agree, but with ML7 hobbled, I don't see them running much read option IF he plays. He isn't as good at it as CS5 either. His reads aren't as good and he isn't as fast.

I would think if Leidner runs the read option, loading the defense to stop Cobb with a spy on Leidner will be effective. Less so with Streveler in there due to his quickness and overall speed.

At this point I say just play Streveler. We know we can't pass. Better off just playing the best running threats available and force Michigan to stop it. That means Streveler. If we're only completing 20% of passes, better off throwing the ball five times a game than twenty times.

Kill commented on how they never brought the safeties up in run support. But I shouldn't put it all on Robinson as it seems pretty clear they have some major personnel issues when it comes to defending the run if their games against Auburn and us are any indication. You don't give up back to back 350+ yard games on the ground if you have guys that are good at stopping the run no matter who you are playing.

With Kill what you see is what you get. i love it that you guys are hoping to see a different offense on Sat. but you will see exactly what you have seen for 4 years with the exception that the players may execute better. trust Dr. JeKill and Mr Lime.

I think they're both going to play.
