For those that have not seen Purdue play this year they are quite improved on the offensive and defensive lines. That and they can really run the football, this team is excellent at hitting you with some big runs. Front seven is going to have to come up big and stop this group.
There defensive actually has some really good size and they have been doing a good job of rushing the passer this season.
Purdue has never been the lock win that a lot of people I talk to believe they will be this week.
Gophers are going to have to be on top of their game and not come out flat. They will have to be fired up to beat this opponent and become bowl eligible this week. Here is hoping they are having a good week of practice and the Gophers offensive and defensive lines are up to the challenge this Saturday. This is not going to be an easy football game. Go Gophers

No game in the Big Ten is ever a lock or easy but we are double digit home favorites so there is no excuse for losing this game. If the Gophers are truly becoming the team we all hope they are then this week and next week should be no doubters. We might not blow them out, but it shouldn't be an adventure either.

I to believe the Gophers are better and should win this football game but that means this opponent and this Purdue team cannot be overlooked. Were playing a decent team on Saturday regardless of record, they have improved a lot under Hazel and have elevated there speed levels and recruiting just like the Gophers have under Kill. Gophers cannot over look this team and must come to play on Saturday or they are in for a rude awakening. This is not the automatic W that some people already have in the column. I doubt the coaches and players feel that way, just some fans are being a little overconfident, I expect another physical tough Big 10 game on Saturday, I know I'm not alone in thinking that.

After what these players have been through, it would be silly to suggest that they may overlook an apponent. If we get beat, its because we got beat by a better/ better prepared team and we haven't advanced as much as thought.

Just a hope: It would be great to see a good/top tier secondary completely own this game. Throwing in there the pass rush that has left some to be desired til this point of the season. But I would love to see the secondary as dominating as possible.

Ball control has been the key to every game.

I'm confident the key is making sure Maximus only takes it one game at a time.

If we can score more points than Purdue, I don't see a way we lose this football game.

or, IF we hold Purdue to fewer points than we score, we just might win it.

Gophers have shifted from -12.5 to -14.5 this afternoon and are now heavy favorites. They are also now at -650 in the money line, which corresponds to a 86.6666% chance of winning. Anyone have an idea what spurred the change?

Spurred the change is money coming in on Minnesota that is raising the spread. Vegas wants more money Purdue's way.

If I were a better, I would now go with Purdue +14.5. I think we will win, but not by 2 TD's +.

Only thing that has really changed in the last 24 hours is that BJ Knauf (fourth-leading receiver on the team, caught a TD last week) has been ruled out for Saturday after undergoing surgery. But that's not nearly enough to push the line 2 points.

Guys, Vegas is all about where the money is being wagered.

This is true, but wouldn't a two-point line shift signal that people are betting on the Gophers?

And if people started heavily betting on the Gophers today, one would think that there would be a reason.

Well, yeah, but sometimes when there's a shift in lines, apart from the hours/day after the opening line is released, it's because the bettors are responding to a change. In this case it looks like they're not, it was just a run on the Gophers over the past several hours/day.

I think our rush offense is better than their rush defense, our pass defense is better than their pass offense, and our special teams are leaps and bounds better in all phases.

I expect that both teams will run the ball well, but we will be better at stopping their pass offense and we will win the special teams battle by a lot. Should win by 14-17 points.

I heard that during gopher football weekly, Kill passed on every question

We do not have to strictly run the ball to ball control on this team. There secondary can be abused and plays off the wide receivers a lot. Gophers should be able to hit some early quick outs and wide receiver screens to the outside, there is no reason not to on this team, they play off the football quite a bit. Why give there defensive line time to get up the field on a rush, or crash the Safties off the edge. We hit some quick digs, some quick inside slants, play action to David Cobb on an inside draw, they will overplay the safety down and hit a quick out to either Jones or Wolitarsky with the other blocking, this is some of what Northwestern was doing to us and we should be able to execute that against this Purdue defense. The rest is open sailing for Cobb if we can keep them honest with some play action passing, which I think Leidner and the wide receiver corps are more than capable of executing. I could easily see this being our easiest passing game of the season. Purdue is going to sell out to stop the run, this is going to leave a lot of outside zone stuff and three step drop stuff open.

Had thought about posting something similar but didn't want to seem like a downer... but I agree, this is not a lock win, and being a Gopher fan I'm really not ready to be that confident yet. If you look at our wins, even Michigan, I just don't see how we should be that confident right now. I wanna see our offense maintain a drive when we really need it.
