About 8 minutes left in the third quarter. Minnesota leads 24-13. We get a huge, dramatic sack deep in Penn State territory. The Lions are forced to punt from their end zone, and we take over at midfield.
It felt like we were in total command at that point. We had them on the ropes and reeling. Crowd was going bananas. I was almost sure we would drive for a score and take a 31-13 lead, going into the final quarter. I'm thinking, "This is just like last season in Madison. We're about to turn this into a blowout".
Then suddenly, Shannon, giving 110% effort and trying to make something out of nothing, fumbles. Penn State ball. HUGE momentum swing.
In the past, the Gophers would have imploded right then and there.
Nope. It didn't go down that way. We hung on, we battled... and we won the game.
It's the dawn of a new day at Minnesota.
