It’s Rose Bowl-or-bust for the Golden Gophers, who fell a game short of winning the Big Ten West with a loss to Wisconsin in the Paul Bunyon Axe rivalry to close the season. Minnesota won’t sneak up on teams this season, but Fleck is not one to back away from challenges. If the defense can overcome the loss of Winfield and an offense that returns eight starters continues to score in bunches, expect the Golden Gophers to contend for the Big Ten West title again.

If memory serves me if MN had not lost to IA they still might have gone to the Rose Bowl even if they lost to WI.

If Minnesota had beaten Iowa they’d have been in the big ten title game even with the loss to Wisconsin and would’ve been playing Ohio State likely for a shot at the playoff.

If they had lost to Ohio state who knows who would’ve gotten the rose bowl bid between gophers and Wisconsin. I suspect Wisconsin still would’ve


Granted if the gophers beat Iowa and entered the Wisconsin having already clinched the Wisconsin game would’ve likely played out differently on both sides. Who knows what would’ve happened
 

I wouldn't use the word bust when you're one of the top teams in the country. Yes a bad loss would hurt us or any other program for that matter. Can't judge a whole season in a sense by one game and that goes to the pros as well. Did a team get to where they wanted? Perhaps not. I wouldn't consider it a bust.
 

Even if the Rose Bowl wasn't part of the playoffs, I wouldn't say it's Rose Bowl or bust. Winning the west would be a step in the right direction, regardless if that gave them a Rose Bowl berth or not.

It's now about long term success to be. I don't want to just have a good year once in awhile. I want to be in a position to win the west just about every year. Do that and we will win it sometimes.

Gophers would’ve made Rose Bowl but rose bowl is canceled also a scenario

They already canceled the parade
